Saratoga Springs, NY - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Philip J. Stanley on October 28, 2024, at the age of 63, after a long, well-fought battle with cancer.
Philip was born to Eleanor and George Stanley on May 13, 1961 in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He would spend his childhood in Hawthorne, New Jersey with his four siblings, Robert, George, Patricia, and Rosemary. He was proud to be from New Jersey and spoke well of his childhood.
Philip married the love of his life, Jolene Kent, in Batavia, New York, in 1992. Their 32-year marriage was filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Together, they had three daughters: Madison, Margaret, and Kathryn. Over the past years, Philip gained a son in Adam Farber, Madison’s longtime partner. Phil was passionate about fatherhood and took great joy in raising his daughters. He was actively involved in coaching their youth basketball teams and played a significant role in their lives, often acting as a second father to many of their friends. The Stanley household is a beloved gathering place for their family, friends, and neighbors, known for its welcoming and open atmosphere.
Phil had a deep passion for sports, particularly his love for the Minnesota Vikings and his daughter Madison’s alma mater, the University of Connecticut. For the past 20 years, he could easily be found at the Saratoga Race Course, always sitting at the same picnic tables with his recognizable tablecloths. He cherished his time living in Saratoga Springs and took great joy in being a local.
Phil Stanley, a beacon of kindness and love, will forever reside in our hearts. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, providing solace in the knowledge that his spirit lives on through the love he instilled in us.
Philip was predeceased by his parents George and Eleanor Stanley, his sister Rosemary McCann, his sister-in-law Lorraine Stanley, and his father- and mother-in-law Robert and Gwendolyn Kent.
He is survived by his wife, Jolene Stanley, his daughters, Madison (Adam Farber) Stanley, Margaret Stanley, and Kathryn Stanley, his brothers Robert and George Stanley, and his sister, Patricia Stanley. He will remain beloved Uncle Phil to his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 12-1pm, Monday November 4, 2024 at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated directly following at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.

Phil was a long time childhood friend and this news of his passing saddens me greatly. After my Dad had died, Phil's father used to take us on plane rides in his private plane and, yes, would even let us fly it!! Great memories I have of Phil and his family. Always laughing and making everyone around him smile. We grew apart as he went on with his life as did I but I've always thought of Phil as he was one of the good guys from our childhood. He will be sorely missed. His family should know he was a one of a kind friend and it's no surprise he left a legacy of love behind him. Rest easy Phil. Until we meet again.

Phil was fun the cousin that always made people feel at home no matter who was there. His boisterous laugh was contagious. Myself and three brothers and sister Ray, Patty, Steve, Mark would enjoy a holidays and summer vacations. The day would be filled with sports, Laughs and food and stories and do not forget the 8 mm movies prepared by uncle George. We all moved away in all directions but Phil's family and house was always open and so was ours. Phils sense of humor and love for all sports made it a memorable experience of growing up and those experiences that will be cherished. Our deepest condolences to the family and jolene and the girls your father will be missed and remembered fondly. Michael Cox and family

My deepest sympathy to the Stanley family and all who loved him as there were many. Phil always lit up the room.
One memory that jumped into my head was on a Christmas night when many of our friends would gather at my house, in came Phil with a door wreath around his neck singing caroles. Goof Ball
He will be missed.

Truly someone that will be missed and always remembered. A great friend and a light of life. Will never forget his distinctive laugh. You could hear him loud and clear across the room. He loved his family, friends, and Saratoga. Especially the track. His dedication to enjoying life with family and friends was monumental to us and all he came across. No matter how far apart we maybe the thoughts and memories of Phil will always be there and an inspiration to us to go through life with love in your heart and a smile on your face. We will miss you Phil. Our thoughts and prayers and love to you Jolene and the girls. Love Mitch & June

To the Stanley family, I'm sorry to hear about Phil's passing, i worked with him for many years at central ny electric. I had a nick name for him since the day I met him " the mayor of saratoga" any where we went he would introduce himself as " hello I'm Phillip J. Stanley, how are you" (I was always embarrassed). I sat with him many times at the race course, he always had his tables and always made the news as one of the lunatics running in as the gates opened! He will be missed by many! Rest in peace phil!

We were a tight neighborhood group of 2nd Avenue kids growing up with Phil, including Jeff, Scott, Michael, Ronnie, Bob and myself, enjoying many hours playing outside over the years and parties when we got a bit older. I am sorry to hear of Phil's passing and hearing about Rosemary's as well. Rest in peace as you meet your parents and sister again. God Bless, Mark

So sad to hear this news, We had a lot of fun together coaching , and watching the Girls hoops and some great parties around it all! No doubt Phil was a throw back to the generation we grew up in where people said what they meant and did not feel a need to be apologetic about it! Which was what made him more real than many to me. Sometimes they raised their voices which was a sign of emphasis not a lack of love if anything, the opposite! He commanded respect from and returned it to those that understood that! His kids got that, which is why they loved him so much and I am sure Jolene probably had to explain it more than once , to others. He was great to coach with very supportive through good and bad decisions! He was the type of friend and coach who told you what you needed to hear not what you wanted to hear! I always enjoyed his sense of humor and whitty sarcasm! He most of all strongly encouraged and tried to teach the girls to fight as hard as they could within the game and care as much as he did. I think in his last fight he lived what he preached as long as he possibly could! Unfortunately, for us he finally succumbed to a much higher power!
All my sympathies and prayers are with Jolene and Madison, Margret and Kate.
Love you all and so sorry!
Mick
