Richard Ellingsworth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 11 to Mar. 13, 2008.
Richard Patrick “Dick” Ellingsworth, 68, of West Terre Haute died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Christus St. John’s Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas. He was born Dec. 16, 1939, in West Terre Haute to Richard B. Ellingsworth and Virginia Pitts Ellingsworth. He was a graduate of the former Valley High School, attended Indiana State University, and was a decorated Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Public Service Indiana after 40 years of service at various locations, including the Wabash River Generating Station, and the Gibson and Cayuga plants, where he served in many management capacities. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Jeanette Callahan Ellingsworth, whom he married Jan. 29, 1966, in St. Mary’s Village Church; three children, Alicia Ellingsworth, Rick Ellingsworth, and Jeanine Cooper and her husband Joe; his adoring grandchildren, Eric, Emilee, Elizabeth, Jack, Anne-Marie, John, Evangeline, and Julia; his siblings, Judy Storms and her husband David, Kathleen Klein and her husband Chris, and Jerry Ellingsworth; brothers-in-law, Jim Callahan and his wife, Florence, Pat Callahan and his wife Kathy, and Mike Callahan and his wife Cindy. He also will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tim Ellingsworth; a sister-in-law, Sandy; a brother-in-law, Joe Callahan; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jay and Mary Callahan; and two nephews, Sgt. Robert “Matt” McDowell, and Sean Patrick Callahan. He was a member of St. Mary’s Village Church, and was dedicated to his family and friends, and was an example to all he knew. Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, with the Rev. Bernard Head officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the Marine Corps League Joseph A. Bray Detachment 471. The family suggests that, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
