Richard Peet

Richard Peet, 83, of Las Cruces, NM passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 of natural causes. Richard was one of 15 children born to John and Vera (Arkenberg) Peet. His father's love of the Cleveland Indians lead him to be named after Dick Porter, an Indian's ball player. Growing up, Richard and his brothers were tremendous ball players. He was born on June 13, 1930 in Ashtabula, Ohio. On Aug. 11, 1951 he married Reda Truesdell in Mount Carmel Church and was a loving and devoted husband for 62 years. He enjoyed gardening, his pet rabbit, and big family dinners whenever possible. In his early years, he and his brothers played the harmonica and worked together in the Peet Roofing family business. In his later years, he delighted his grandkids with his harmonica playing. Richard is survived by his wife Reda; daughter, Debra (Tony) Presciano; son, Rick (Lupe), Brian (Juanita), Doug (Sylvia), Lori, Terry Joe; his grandchildren, Anthony, Dwayne, Kelly, Ricky, Sharen, Ashley, Dougie, Sarah and Joseph; his great grandchildren, Allison, Samantha, Riley and Lillianna; several adoring nieces and nephews; and sister Maxine (Mickey Laurello). He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Anthony, John Jr., Albert, Raymond, Averill, and a brother in infancy; his sisters Neta, Frances, Laura, Leatrice, Philomen, Gloria, Antoinette, Marie; and granddaughter Amanda. A private remembrance was held Friday for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests continued prayers. Arrangements are with Getz Funeral Home and Getz Family Crematory, 1410 E.
