WHITING, Richard J.
November, 1937 – June, 2017
Richmond's Running Man crosses his final finish line. Well-known runner, coach, and teacher Rick Whiting passed away peacefully to Leukemia June 17, 2017 in Richmond, BC with family at his side. Rick was a passionate teacher who inspired many. He loved running more than anything, and was a world class competitor. For over 40 years he could be seen running the streets of the community he gave so much to. Rick leaves behind his wife Friedel, son Gordon and his wife Marieta, daughter Astrid and husband Fraser, and sister Lois and husband Bernie. We will love and miss him forever. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Rd, Richmond, BC with reception to follow.

Mr. Whiting inspired me greatly as my teacher and remained a dear friend. He meant a great deal to me and I will miss him immensely. My sincere condolences to the family.

Mr Whiting was my grade 5 teacher back in 1994. I still remember him fondly as a caring and engaging teacher as well as the book that he wrote about the two Rogers. I'm sorry to hear of his passing and previous ill health. My thoughts are with the family.

I was sad to hear that Rick had passed away. Rick was often at Diefenbaker Elementary School as a TOC, and I frequently saw Rick and Marieta at the Seafair Safeway. Rick was a great guy, always friendly and very positive. He was loved by all.
