ROBERT DILLON Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 23, 2011.
DILLON ROBERT E.
90, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2011. A memorial service was held in his honor on December 19. Mr. Dillon was born in Duquesne, PA to Thomas and Edith Dillon. As a Second Lt. bombardier with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, he served his country with valor, flying 32 missions including his first one on D Day. After the war, he relocated to Pittsburgh where he met his wife, Sylvia, and raised four children. Mr. Dillon was the quintessential self-made man, entrepreneur, innovator and most importantly, a philanthropist. With his wife of 65 years, he founded a commercial design company, Dillon Business Furniture in 1958. For the next several decades, everyone wanted The Dillon Touch, and together they designed and provided the interiors for several major corporations, including US Steel, Pittsburgh National Bank and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Equally passionate about the communities in which he lived, Mr. Dillon played significant roles, first as a member of the board of the Pittsburgh Ballet Company and president of Concordia Club and later on as a leader in the philanthropic funding arm of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach. A life-long golf enthusiast, he was an active member of Westmorland Country Club. In addition to his wife, Mr. Dillon is survived by his four children, Richard, James, Christy and Jamie; his daughter-in-law, Shelley Dillon and two grandchildren, Lindsay and Morgan Dillon. In honor of his life, the family requests that donations be made to either the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach or Hospice of Palm Beach.
