Robert Embree

Bob Embree, 68, passed Monday, May 24, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10 am Friday, May 28, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. Graveside services will be held 2 pm Friday at Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Bob was born in Corning, raised in Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1960, where he excelled at sports and was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended one year at Southwestern Community College. Bob married Janet Victor, his high school sweetheart, on March 6, 1962 in El Centro, California. They lived in Creston a short time before moving to Fort Dodge, where Bob worked at General Adjustment Bureau. They later moved to Waterloo where he began his 34-year career with Continental Western Insurance Company, during which time it took them to Topeka, Kansas for 13 years and later to the home office in Des Moines in 1986. The last three years of his career were spent with General Casualty Insurance Company. Bob made many lifelong friends during his career in the insurance industry. Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing, Drake Basketball and Model A Cars. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Des Moines Claims Managers Association, St. Boniface Catholic Church and Hillcrest Country Club in Adel. Bob is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Lori (Bob) Price of Omaha, Angie (Bob Rummelhart) Embree of Johnston, and Rob (Chris) Embree of Urbandale; his grandchildren, Maris and Ian Price and Austin Embree; his siblings, Larry (Billie) Embree of Quincy, Illinois, Margaret (Bob) Rue and Jerry Embree, both of Jefferson, Wisconsin; his mother in law, Dorothy Lorraine Victor of Waukee, formerly of Creston; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vera (Conley) Embree and his siblings, Jean Abell, Dorothy Long, Moe Embree and Carl Embree; and his father in law, Ray Victor. Visitation begins 3pm Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm and a vigil service will be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Boniface Catholic Church or Taylor House Hospice. Bob will be remembered for his great sense of humor, being a friend and mentor, and always being a true gentleman. Robert Embree
