Robert C. Kincaid Sr.

SOUTH BEND - Robert C. Kincaid Sr. passed away at Southfield Village, South Bend, IN, on Wednesday, January 25, 2012. He was 96 years of age. Robert was born in Sheridan, IN, on October 8, 1915, to Harry B. and Floe E. (Hinshaw) Kincaid. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Harriet Maxine Fry of Mishawaka, IN; and his brother, Harry Beryl Kincaid, who was killed while serving in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. Another sister, Kathyleen (Kincaid) Smith, passed away February 27, 2009. He married Jane Guin of Mishawaka in 1937. She died in 1968 while she and Bob were vacationing in California. In 1969, he married Betty Stout Slabaugh of South Bend (who survives). Bob has two boys, Robert C. Kincaid Jr. (Rose) of South Bend and James E. Kincaid (Joan) of Goshen, IN. Bob has six grandchildren, Erin Lynn Douglass (Paul) of Niles, MI, Rebekah Lynn Kincaid of Walkerton, IN, Ann Marie Schepman (Todd) of Niles, MI, Laura J. Snider of Richmond, VA, Paul (Jennifer) Kincaid of Scottsville, VA, and James Timothy (Jill) Kincaid of Mt. Crawford, VA; and nine great-grandchildren, Nicole Snider, Michelle Snider, Mitch Kincaid, Parker Kincaid, Briana Kincaid, Maxwell Douglass, Jacob Douglass, Samuel Douglass and Drew North. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Linda Anne Barrett of South Bend, IN, and Leslie Jean Rush of Goshen, IN; as well as four step-grandchildren, Scott, Nathan, Lisa and Anthony; and five step-great-grandchildren. Robert Kincaid Sr. retired from South Bend Lathe in South Bend, IN, after 35 years. He was also employed by Federal Press in Elkhart, IN, for 12 years and Walerko Engineering, Elkhart, IN, for eight years. Bob graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1935 and was the class treasurer. He played an important role in planning the Mishawaka High School class reunions. Bob enjoyed playing golf, loved being with friends, playing cards, and going out to eat. He was an avid bicyclist for years and a member of Michiana Bicycling Association. He was a former member of the Elks Club in Elkhart and SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers). He attended Osceola United Methodist Church, Beech Road, Osceola, IN, for over 25 years. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, in the chapel at Southfield Village, 6450 Miami Circle, South Bend, IN 46614.
