Robert McCall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 14 to Mar. 17, 2023.
After seven years, Bobby lost his courageous battle against ALS. He died at home on Friday, March 10, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 17, 1948 to Robert B. (Sonny) and Julia Wendt McCall. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he attended Dufroc Elementary, Westdale Junior High, Baton Rouge High School and LSU. While at LSU, he was a member of ROTC and Scabbard and Blade. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. When he returned to Baton Rouge he was hired by Louisiana National Bank, which became Premier Bank and then Bank One. He helped start Alliance Bank which became Iberia Bank then First Horizon. He joked that he worked for six banks, but only changed jobs once. During those 27 years he became known as an exceptional, fair, hardworking leader in the banking community who always tried to accomplish the best for his customers. He was a loyal employee and never had a negative or unkind word about anyone. Bobby was proud to serve the community of Baton Rouge and donated much of his time to many organizations including Volunteers of America, CCA, Capital Area United Way, Family Services, Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, St. James Place Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. He was also a charter member of Sunrise Rotary. He attended St. James Episcopal Church where he served on the Associate Vestry, Vestry as Treasurer, and President of the Day School Board. While growing up, Bobby's young friends became his lifelong friends. Many of those friends are still members of their Supper Club for 50 years. Bobby worked hard during the week but on weekends he loved to fish and hunt. He spent many relaxing and happy times at his camps in Dulac and Hackberry, LA. However, when he sold them and bought a small farm in Ethel, LA, the weekends involved maintaining the property and tractor therapy. He met a new group of friends in East Feliciana who were always available to advise and help. When he was 65 years old he accomplished a long held dream and obtained his pilot license. Again, he made many new friends. He enjoyed time at the airport hanging out with his pilot buddies and flying to interesting and fun places with them. Bobby was serious and professional at work but his best side was his infectious humor that led to creating unique scenarios that everyone enjoyed. He loved his family! Bobby is survived by his wife of 51 years Susan Greene McCall, two children Melanie (Anthony) and Andy (Julie Moffett McCall), grandson Everett, who was "Mac's" best friend for 10 years. Survived by his brother Jim McCall. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Julia McCall Hightower (Jack). Also survived by his nieces, Kara Hightower Mathews (Derek) and Kristi Sciacchetano (Pete). Special thanks to Mark Abernethy for arranging Bobby and Susan's first date. The family wishes to thank Hal Holloway for his care and friendship and Zhanna Bennett, nurse from Notre Dame Hospice. Honorary pallbearers Supper Club, Woodchucks, G Frank Purvis III, Brent McCoy and Ben Marmande. A service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Friday March 17 at 12 noon preceded by a visitation beginning 9:30. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to: ALS Association 14241 Coursey Blvd, Suite A12 #374, Baton Rouge, LA 70817 www.webla.alsa.org St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. 4th St. Baton Rouge, LA 70801 www.stjamesbr.org

Mr. Bobby was a great man, great banker and a real friend. He helped my dad at LNB almost 50 years ago when he started the business and he helped us at Iberia Bank about 10 years ago when we really needed it.
I owe Mr. Bobby a lot and I am proud to have known him and call him my friend.

Very sorry to hear of Bobby's passing. I worked with him at Premier and Bank One and fished with him in Dulac once. He was an exceptional banker and guy!

Correction to my previous message:
Here was a true gentleman, in every sense of the word. He was always very respectful and kind. He helped me many times, but never did he cross the line or bend a banking rule. The Yiddish language has one word that describes Robert "Bobby" McFall--he is a real mensch, a person of integrity and honor. God Bless you Bobby. May your new journey be as rewarding as your life here. May God Bless your family and give them the strength they will need to carry on.
Sincerely,
Donald Kaufmann

While we were growing up Bobby and I were neighbors on Kleinert Street for about eight years, before we moved. I didn't see him much except when we're playing football. I have vague memories of us playing in
his front yard with his brother.
Year's later Doug Cohn and I were boat riding and skiing on the Tickfaw River. When we finished and we were walking on the peer, under the peer was a wallet. It was Bobby´s wallet. What a surprise when I called him and he said he worked for LNB. He was grateful in his complementary way. When I worked with my Dad´s agency in LNB I frequently ran into Bobby. Here was a true gentleman, in ever since if the word.
Sincerely,

My wife and I knew Bobby from working together for many years at LNB and when it became Premier Bank. Bobby was a very special person to both of us. He had such a positive personality and always tried to find the best in people. We are all better for his having been a part of our lives.

Bobby was the ultimate gentleman, best friend to many, fine sportsman and just an all around good guy. I will miss our spirited and funny conversations on the screen porch in Ethel. Your spirit and kindness will be treasured by many. Prayers with Susan and family.

To all of Bobby's family, my deepest sympathy. I recall a verse from English class at BRHS "...the good men do is oft times interred with him." Not so with this man; he will be remembered and cherished for his life in Baton Rouge.

Bobby was such a nice young man and always had a smile on his face. He came into Capital Savings & Loan many years ago to see Mim Thompson. They were lunch buddies. So sorry to learn of his illness and his death. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Dearest Susan, I am so sorry you´ve lost your sweet husband dear Bobby. Adorable and the perfect gentleman, always. Of course I didn´t know he was sick because I haven´t lived in Baton Rouge for 48 years. But when I do think of Baton Rouge it´s you and Bobby, Mark, Mim, and others who made growing up there so much fun and a safe group to hang with.
Know that you and your children are in my thoughts this morning as I grieve the loss of a wonderful old friend.
