VIRDEN - Robert S. "Bob" McCutcheon II, 58, of Virden, died at 10:52 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at his residence.

Bob was born March 30, 1954 in Springfield, the son of Robert Stewart and Luella Kathryn Stephens McCutcheon. He married Judith L. Nyilas on November 22, 1975 in Springfield.

Bob graduated from Ball Chatham Elementary and Glenwood High School. He also attended Western Military Academy. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Sangamon State University and worked with his father, Bob Sr. to operate McCutcheon's Auto Service in Springfield until 1990. He has been employed by Farmer Environmental Services of Edwardsville since 2008.

He was very active in both the State and National archery organizations, holding various offices over the years and has been the Councilman for the Great Lakes Section of the National Field Archery Association for the past 10 years. He was instrumental in organizing the National Archery in the Schools Program State Championship for the past 6 years, and loved introducing young people to the sport. He received the National Field Archery Association's Medal of Merit in 2009 and the President's Award in February 2012 for his dedication to the sport and the organization. He also enjoyed working on his property, gardening and landscaping. But most of all, loved dancing with his wife.

I was privileged to know BoB and Judy for many years. Shot archery with them a lot. Bob was a special person that I think about often. Archery and his friends and and family lost a very special man in all of our lives.
Thankfully he is in a much better place now.

Judy, Stewart and family,
We were so sorry to hear about Bob. I (Pat) worked with him at SIU SOM for 10+ years, and he was always a pleasure to work with. Bob was a kind person with a gentle spirit. He loved his family and archery, and always spoke highly of both!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of bereavement.
Sincere sympathy,
