1944 - 2022
Robert Lewis McDaniel, 77, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away July 24, 2022. He was born in Swifton, Arkansas, to Owen McDaniel and Glenna (George) McDaniel on October 3, 1944. Robert (Bob) moved to Indianapolis Indiana, with his family in September, 1951. As a teenager, he worked for the Boys' Club on Raymond Street, and was always an advocate of those types of clubs, and how they gave younger boys a safe place to go, be around others to play sports and make friends. He graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1962. During his junior year, Bob was part of the cross country team that won the state championship. He married Cynthia Hoff in 1966, but they divorced two years later. They remarried in 1987 and remained married until her passing in 2014. After two years in the U.S. Army, one year of it in Vietnam as point man for his platoon, Bob drove race cars, mainly sprint cars, for well over 20 years. He worked for CMW, then for Puritan Bennett. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for Avon Community School Corporation for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cynthia, sisters Marietta McDaniel and Linda (Rick) Baughn. He is survived by his daughter Theresa (Andy) Lang of Indianapolis and his brother Levon (Violet) McDaniel of Brownsburg, and many close family members and friends.

From an older brother. I watched him grow to manhood & was very pleased when he was part of the CC team that took the state in 1961. Since we lived close by we did not correspond except when he was in Vietnam.

Heartfelt condolences to family and those close to this friend. Bob and I go back to the Salk Park Boys Club in Drexel Gardens. He was a standout athlete, especially basketball, and we became good friends. He was the main reason in 1962 that I decided to enroll at Indiana State instead of joining the Marines. Our life paths took us in different directions, but we re-connected on my trips back to
Indiana and periodic phone calls to stay in touch. I will miss those times with this good man, friend to me and many, with thanks for his service in Viet Nam where he made a difference. Rest In Peace Mac.

Sending condolences to Bob's daughter, brother & family. Bob was a close friend of my brother Ron. I saw Bob often through the years. He was one of the good guys and I always enjoyed talking with him. I was in hs when the Ben Davis HS CC team won the IHSAA State Championship. What an honor for Bob to be part of that team.
