Ronald LaMar Meeks

Ronald (Ron) LaMar Meeks went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 24th, 2022. He was born on October 12, 1941 in Springfield, Ohio. As soon as he could, he made his way to Texas. At the age of four, Ron moved to Gainesville, Texas, with his mother Pauline and loving stepfather Granville "Tex" Miller. He was a Leopard at Gainesville High School where he played football and baseball. One of his claims to fame was that he was coached by Buddy Ryan...who he despised so much that he quit football. This allowed him to focus more on his studies become a National Merit Scholar, one of 10,000 in the United States.

After high school his calling was to attend Southern Methodist University to become a Methodist preacher. He was a master debater, perfect for preaching from the pulpit. He played center field for the Mustangs baseball team throughout his time at SMU. Yes, SMU had a baseball team. Some newfound attention from the ladies of SMU and his time as a Fiji entertainment coordinator swayed him from the cloth and he enrolled in law school at SMU.

After earning his Juris Doctor, he began working in the oil industry as a landman. He spent his 20s burning through Dallas. Crawling out of the embers, he moved to Houston where he worked as an attorney and landman. While in Houston, he met his wife of twenty-two years. In 1984, they moved to Conroe to raise their three children. Ron opened a successful law practice in Conroe. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Conroe, involved in the Conroe High School Booster, and could often be spotted on the sidelines at Conroe High School's sporting event cheering on his two sons and daughter. Ron continued to work as an attorney and landman until he retired and moved back to Houston in 2015.

Ron had a personality and natural charisma that caused him to never meet a stranger. He enjoyed sporting events, reading science fiction, hunting, and telling stories, but especially loved spending time with his family. Above all things, he was most proud of being a dad and gramps.

He is survived by his children, Evan Meeks and his wife Lisa, Parker Meeks and his wife Alexandra, Casey Eisfeldt and her husband Anthony (Tony), Kimberly McGaughy and her husband Kent; eight grandchildren, Cameron (18), Tyler (13), Emma (10), Bradleigh (8), Mase Granville (7), John (6), Brooks (5), and Charlotte (6 months); ex-wife and friend, Byrdie Meeks; and his younger brothers, Steve Meeks and Jack Meeks.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, from 5-7pm and a Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, at 2:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home with interment to follow in Garden Park Cemetery.
