LAPORTE - Ronald "Pops" Peeples, 61, a resident of Davenport, IA, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his home after a valiant battle with cancer. Memorial visitation will be Friday from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a time of sharing at noon. Keeping with Ron's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Ronald L. Peeples was born on October 2, 1950 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Paul and Mildred (Reuss) Peeples. He was united in marriage to Leata Higginbotham on October 4, 1975. They later divorced, but remained friends. Ron served our country for over 15 years in the Army, primarily as a Drug and Alcohol / Race Relations/Equal Opportunity NCO and a technical writer. He was retired in 1988. He then went to work at the Rock Island Arsenal and was a technical writer dealing with small arms and helicopter manuals. He retired from there in 2005. Ron was a member of the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the proud recipient of the God and Country Award presented by the Eagle Scouts through the United Methodist Church of Rolling Prairie, IN, where he was a member. He graduated from New Prairie High School in 1969. In his free time, Ron enjoyed fishing, reading and tinkering with computers. He had an infectious laugh. He was quick with a joke or a card trick. He loved his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date. Ron is survived by his daughters, Denise (Scott) Cary and Wendy Amor, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Nick, Mitchell, Morgan, Emily, Kayden and Naomi; a sister, Connie Grover, Indianapolis; his best friend, Dave "D.J." Jandrisovits, Rolling Prairie, Indiana; and many people he had a fatherly influence on, thus the nickname "Pops". There will also be a one hour memorial service at the United Methodist Church on US 20 in Rolling Prairie, IN on February 11, 2012 at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, William "Billy" Amor (2010). Online remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting Ron's obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com.
