Ross CHAFE Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette from Jun. 5 to Jun. 6, 2015.
CHAFE, Ross Henry
It is with heart-aching sadness that we announce the sudden and premature passing of Ross Henry Chafe at 52, on Sunday, May 31, 2015 after a tragic cycling accident. He will be forever missed by his wife and love Lizanne Bussières, and his three daughters Alexandra, Fabienne and Isabelle. He will also be missed by his loving parents Earl and Ruby Chafe, his brother Peter (Wendy), his 12 nieces and nephews and many extended family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother Glen. Ross was born July 4, 1962 and raised in Greenfield Park, on the South shore of Montreal. After completing his business degree at McGill University and his MBA at Western University, he fulfilled his dream of being an entrepreneur when he acquired Flags Unlimited based out of Barrie, Ontario. His keen business sense allowed him and his partners to grow the company into a North American leader with ties around the world. Ross loved the great outdoors, whether he was camping, skiing or golfing, and he always carried his passion for cycling everywhere he travelled. Ross was a positive and warm person with a great passion for life and the people and places he encountered. He epitomized Howard Thurman's words: "Ask what makes you come alive and go do it". A Private Ceremony will be held for the family and a Memorial Service will be organized in Montreal mid-July. The Whistler community will be organizing a Joint Ceremony to celebrate Ross Chafe and Kelly Blunden's lives, which will take place at the Whistler Conference Centre on June 13, 2015 from 1 p.m. onwards. For updated information, please visit www.squamishfuneralchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS, www.mywcss.org) are appreciated.

Ross was a true gentleman. My heart sank when I read the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. I knew Ross from CRHS, and Champlain College, and had cycled on many occasions with him and others, including Bob Fransham on "hill climbing" exercises around Mt. St. Hilaire, and the South Shore. Ross relished driving the group, and his indomitable spirit was self-evident. Clearly this fervor carried him throughout his entrepreneurial life. Ross was unforgettable for his passion, kindness, and friendly demeanour. R.I.P. Ross. To the Chafe family, please accept my heartfelt condolences, and to all whose lives Ross touched.

Mrs. and Mr. Chafe, and Peter,

My mother and I are saddened to learn of your recent loss. I grew up on Chambly Street as well and, though Ross was a few years younger that I was, I knew him, and was even then so impressed by his dedication and positive attitude.

We offer our deepest sympathies,

Hadn't seen Ross for many years, though he and his brothers - and parents "Niffer Chafe & Mummy" were a highlight of my childhood; when I lived next door. Ross helped inspire my love of bikes with Bob Fransham at CRHS. Ross was friends with my sisters, Terri & Tracey, who also send their condolences. My Mom, Bev Brown, also adds hers. Will never forget the Chafe boys playing with our big Newfie dog, Ben. I was in Whistler today, said a prayer for him. All our love.

Such a terrible loss for his family and everyone who knew him. He has joined up with his brother Glen, together they are probably turning heaven into the greatest playground.

Dear Ruby and Earl
How can words express the sorrow of losing such a young guy. We remember him so fondly as one of the neighborhood kids when he was growing up in Greenfield Park; to say that he'll be missed is an understatement.

Our deepest sympathy to you and to his family. The Grant's

To me Ross was always a birthday buddy, as we shared our celebration with Canada for several years down by the arena. He was a friend through High School and so absolutely and generously supportive of our 25th reunion in 2004. My heart goes out to his family and those close to him. He will indeed be missed.

I knew Ross mainly as Karen and Flemming's friend growing up in Greenfield Park. Our paths crossed again in 2004 when we were both organizing our respective high school reunions and he and his company, Flags Unlimited, generously donated to our reunion fund. He had a heart of gold and a smile to match :) Ross is proof that doing everything right doesn't guarantee you a long life, just one that touches and inspires many others. RIP Ross, you will be greatly missed by the many who knew you. My sincere condolences to his family.

My heart is filled with sadness knowing Ross's life was taken and the lives nearest and dearest to him are changed forever. We are left to mourn until we find some sort of peace and acceptance, so we may continue our journey. One would feel wonderful energies radiating from his soul. His smile and sparkle in his eyes brought feelings of contentment and comfort. What he accomplished in his life span would take the life span of many. Not only did he inspire those closest to him but those watching from a far. I have fond memories of Ross and he's inspired me to push forward to reach new goals. My deepest heartfelt condolences go out to Lizanna, their daughters Alexandra, Fabienne and Isabell, Auntie Ruby, Uncle Earl, Peter and extended family and closest friends and co-workers.

To the Chafe family,
Ross grew up around the corner from me and I can remember watching him leave on his bike for a ride. Ross was the reason I joined Brossard cycling club and I am still cycling today. I will miss him and his spirit.
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and I hope that your memory of Ross will keep you strong at this trying time.
