Died: March 27, 2014; in Fort Myers, FL

Roy J. Miller, on March 27th, peacefully passed in his apartment at Calusa Harbor in Fort Myers, Florida. Roy was born on January 14th, 1924, on a farm near Creston Iowa, a resident of Illinois and Florida, in Rockford, Crystal Lake and Carbondale and in Fort Myers, resided in Old Bridge Park for over 25 years.

He is survived by his sister, Verla Briggs (Burt) of IL, son, Randolph L. Miller (Jeri) of CO, son, Jeffrey W. Miller (Sandra) of IL; step-daughter, Pamela Y. Schilling (Rolf) of IL; daughter-in-laws, Jacqueline and Deborah Miller; grandsons, granddaughters, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Roy was predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia C. Miller; sons Russell L. Miller and Bradley J. Miller; and first wife, Barbara A. Burrows.

Roy served honorably in World War II in the Army-Air Corp and was a navigator of a B-29. Roy had a long career of 35 years with Illinois Bell and retired at age 55, an accomplishment he was proud to achieve. He was an avid golfer (semi-pro), bowler, and was on the cheerleading squad and a high driver on the swim team in high school at Rockford. He enjoyed sports games and had an active social life with friends and family and was well loved by all. He will be missed and our lives have been enriched for knowing him.

A memorial service to celebrate Roy's life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday May 17, 2014, at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State St. in Rockford. Inurnment will follow at Willwood Burial Park in Rockford.
