Ryan Goddard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 3, 2010.
Ryan Dale Goddard, 29, of Kansas City, Missouri, went to his reward on August 2, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ryan was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dale and Sheryl Goddard on August 20,1980. He was a native of the east side and graduated from East High School in 1998. After high school, Ryan attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo., and earned a bachelor's degree in geography. While at college, Ryan joined the Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity. He served as the president for one term and formed a band of great friendships he truly cherished. In 1999, he met the love of his life, Ginny, and spent the rest of his life with her by his side. After graduation, Ryan became a loyal employee of Wilson and Company Inc (formerly Western Air Maps) where he worked as a Geospatial Specialist until the last weeks of his life. Although Ryan's life only spanned 29 years, it was not lived without substance. He had an amazing family, a loving wife and countless great friends. He knew he was a blessed man regardless of his illness. His strength, courage and kindness was an inspiration to many and will never be forgotten. Ryan is survived by his wife, Ginny Goddard of Kansas City, Missouri; parents Dale and Sheryl Goddard; sisters Angela (Brian) Leeper and Amy Goddard; grandfather John Renteria; nephew Carter Leeper and niece Chloe Leeper all of Des Moines, Iowa as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lorraine Renteria. A visitation will take place from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following on Friday, August 6, at Broadway United Methodist Church, 406 W. 74th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Memorial contributions are welcome to Broadway United Methodist Church or Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center, 143 Darlington Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10312 (in honor of Burdge Brothers Run for Cancer). Condolences may be made at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.

To the Goddard family:

Words cannot express the sorrow and tragedy a person feels after the loss of a loved one; Especially somebody with a heart the size of Ryan's. When a loved one leaves us on this earth and his soul goes to Heaven to meet our maker, we are left with countless little treasures that will continue to remind us of that person multiple times on a daily basis. These treasures are our memories of that person and the people, places, and things they stood for and influenced throughout their lifetime. This is God's gift to the living and they should be cherished forever. These are the gifts we will hold onto throughout our lives and in essence make up Ryan's Legacy.

Ryan and I went to school together and were in the same pledge class in AKL. I am grateful that I have been able to call Ryan my friend, and I am DEEPLY saddened by this tragic event. I offer my dearest condolences. I know how difficult this must be for you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I know how much you will miss Ryan. Hold your faith up high and proudly, knowing that God has a plan and whatever happpens to his children, is never an accident or unplanned to him. Sometimes we have a difficult time understanding why God allows tragic events to occur...but one thing that I am certain of, is that God's plan will make since to us when we are united with him and are able to look at our lives In Reverse! It will ALL MAKE SINCE IN REVERSE!

I encourage you to draw on your strength and the strength of your family. Again my deepest condolences for your loss and my prayers will be with you all. God Bless you all.

Respectfully,

~ Lonnie D. Bradford ~

Ginny and family,
My first meeting and remembrance of Ryan was watching the smile appear on his face when he saw YOU walking down the aisle to him on your wedding day.

My last meeting and remembrance of Ryan was June 9 when I placed 4 dozen donuts in the break room at Wilson and Company to celebrate his colleague (and my husband) Eric's birthday. He passed me, in the hall, flashed that smile I remembered so well and said "hello".

Eric was faithful in sharing Ryan's story with me. My God...what a brave and courageous young man. You and everyone Ryan touched in his brief 29 years remain in Eric's and my thoughts and prayers.

God Bless...

Ryan was an amazing and fun person! He truly lived his life to the fullest in college when I knew him and from the pictures he contined that until the end. However, just knowing he touched my life and in a very postitive way will help you to know he will live on through many! My thoughts are with you during this time. Angie Dunnaway NWMSU class of 2000
