ANNANKRA COL. DR. SAM
Col. Dr. Sam Annankra, born Oct. 10, 1950 went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on April 20, 2007 in Ghana, Africa. He is survived by Esther, his wife who is a doctor and dermatologist and 5 children, Daniel age 27, Akembe age 25, Awenyuei, known as "Ruth" age 18, Apagnawen, known as "David" age 16 and Awentiirim known as "Louise" age 13. Esther and Sam have taken into their home other children to raise as part of their family totaling 13 children. He also has 3 brothers and a sister. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dr. Sam received his degree as a medical doctor at the University of Legon in Ghana in 1978 and became a specialist in Pediatrics at the University of Edinborough in Scotland. He was a doctor on staff since 1990 and Chief of Pediatrics at a 250 bed hospital at the 37 Military Hospital in Ghana. He also worked at Kolebu Teaching in Ghana. He was a pastor at a branch of one of the largest churches in Ghana - the International Central Gospel Church in Accra. Dr. Sam was a visionary and was President and Founder of Christian Medical Missions Resource Foundation (CMRF) in  Ghana whose mission is "Mobilizing Human and other Resources Worldwide, to send forth God's Love through Word and Positive Acts of Deed." CMRF had over 200 volunteer physicians, nurses, pharmacists and lay people who volunteered their time to go on medical missions throughout Ghana 6 times a year to give free medical care and medications to impoverished people there. CMRF also was involved in other projects such as drip irrigation, scholarships for impoverished children, health, education, leadership development, medical donations, provision of educational materials for impoverished schools, provision of potable drinking water and training missionaries. CMRF also trained other medical mission teams such as Encounter Uganda to work in Uganda. Dr. Sam was also a Colonel in the Ghana Air Force. CMRF and CMMRF (the U.S. 501 (c) (3) formed a collaboration with World Vision International, Pittsburgh Division under Dr. Sam's guidance to develop a system of categorization of donated medical supplies sent by World Vision around the world. This has been an unusual and successful endeavor by both organizations to get the supplies to the clinics, hospitals and ultimately the patients who need them most - thereby showing the love of the Gospel. A Memorial Service for Dr. Sam Annankra will be held at North Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 600 Ingomar Rd., Wexford, PA on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. Rev.
