Sam G. Littleton

LITTLETON, SAM G. - age 73 of Knoxville, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011. He was of the Methodist faith. Sam was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he began his broadcast career doing play-by-play for the football team and as a disc jockey at WGNS. He met his future wife, Sue and they married in 1961. They moved to Memphis and Sam worked with WMC Radio and WREG-TV. He worked at WSM Radio, The Grand Ole Opry and WSMV-TV in Nashville for nearly 20 years. Sam moved back to Knoxville where he worked with several local media organizations, including WBIR/10 News 2 and finished his career as a semi-retired sales consultant with WVLT-TV. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam R. and Grace Roberts Littleton, and brother-in-law, Jack McCarroll. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sue Browder Littleton; son, Dean Littleton of Knoxville; daughter, Mary Littleton of Nashville; sister, Norma Littleton McCarroll; nephew, Jack McCarroll and wife, Lisa and their children, all of Memphis. Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. Friday in Westview Cemetery in Sweetwater for graveside services. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Lenoir City with Rev. Barry Culberson officiating. The family will receive friends following in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sam Littleton Memorial Fund at The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Mid South Chapter or the Thompson Cancer Center Foundation.
