Samuel Martens

MARTENS, Samuel 1919 - 2011 Sam passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice in Calgary on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the age of 91. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Kathleen, son-in-law John Sparkes; grandchildren: Sheri (David Torske), Joni, Brad (Lorri); great-grandchildren: Sam, Jordan, Ryan, Quinn and Jaxon; brothers: Tony (Alma) and Reuben (Alviena); sister-in-law Maxine. Sam was predeceased by his wife Ethel and brothers: Otto, Fred and Roy. Sam was born in Main Centre, Saskatchewan in 1919 and attended The University of Saskatchewan for Pre-Dentistry and graduated from The University of Alberta in 1948. He started his practice in Lacombe in 1948 and then moved to Calgary in 1953 practicing until retirement in 1992. Sam held the honor of being the oldest practicing Dentist in Alberta at the age of seventy-two. He married Ethel Grimes in 1954. Sam was an avid sports fan and loved curling, golfing and vacationing in Phoenix. He was a member of Abundant Life Church (The Bethel Baptist Church), Inglewood Golf Club and The Calgary Winter Club. Sam was a very caring man always putting others before himself. He will be dearly missed by all. For those wishing to pay their respects a Visitation will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, June 3, 2011 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Swalm of Abundant Life Church officiating.
