SHIRLEY JOYCE MOYER

1937 - 2022

Shirley (Shirl) Joyce Moyer, artist, author, entrepreneur, and not so accomplished poker player died in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 20, 2022 from complications of Ovarian Cancer at the age of 85.

She was born to Bill and Ruth Williamson in Monessen, Pennsylvania. Her childhood, oftentimes difficult, later became the inspiration for her novel "The Ginkgoes of Ben Venue". Always one to overcome adversity, she met and married Bob, the love of her life and moved to California where they raised their four children.

After Bob's early retirement, they moved to fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada - a city she loved since her first visit in 1954.

She had a long love affair with good red wine, spaghetti and meatballs - "the secret is the basil", and the melodic strums of a guitar. She excelled at playing chess, creating art from bits and bobs of nature and was a genius with written words. Shirl was fearless, adventurous, resilient and kind. She lived on the "edge of perfection" she would say often.

She leaves behind daughter Susan (Daniel) Johnson, favorite son Bill (Debra) Moyer, daughter Mary (Mark) Romero, brother-in-law Bill Moyer, seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, beloved friends and long lost cousins.

Shirl was preceded in death by her husband Robert, son Robert Jr., step-daughter Nancy Lyons and grandson Joey Olszewski.

Her sparkle will be missed forever.

I shall always remember my dear sister-in-law. She was so kind when my dear Anh was in the hospital with her cancer. Shirley would be at the hospital every day helping with her care. Everyone should live a full and happy life like Shirley did! From shooting a gun to flying an airplane, she could do everything!
I will see you and Bob again.

She made me smile every time I saw her. Her laughter was infectious. Whenever her and Bob came to visit I loved hearing them laugh and kid each other as only loving family can do. Shirl and Bob had a life well lived. I'm blessed to have grown up with the Moyer clan. I will miss her style, grace, smile, laughter and sense of adventure. The world is a better place for having her and Bob be a part of it. Lots of love to all our families. Carol
