Sister Timothy Dempsey, SSJ Obituary
Sister Timothy Dempsey, longtime principal of St. Margaret's School in Buffalo, died Thursday in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, Clarence. She was 91.
Born in Buffalo, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in September 1944 and pronounced her final vows in August 1950. She earned degrees in education from Mount St. Joseph College, now Medaille College, in 1950 and 1965.
Sister Dempsey taught middle and upper grades in Catholic parochial schools in Buffalo, Salamanca, North Tonawanda, Langford, Alden, Niagara Falls and Attica. She also cared for young children in St. Joseph Orphanage in Lackawanna.
She began teaching upper grades at St. Margaret's School in 1970 and served as principal from 1978 to 2002. She was honored as a Religious Educator of the Year by the Diocese of Buffalo's Department of Catholic Education in 1993.
An accomplished singer, she often was requested as a soloist. She also was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia Ann Weaver, and a brother, Edward.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 7 p.m. Monday, July 23, in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence.
