Stephen Tyrer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 5 to Jun. 4, 2014.
Stephen K. Tyrer, 66, of Emmett, Idaho, died on May 2, 2014, in the comfort of his home with his loving wife by his side after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer.
Steve was born on June 12, 1947, in Washington D.C., to Arthur Kenneth Tyrer and JoAnne Ellen Hopper Tyrer. Steve grew up in Rupert and Boise, Idaho, and graduated from Boise High School in 1965. He attended Boise Junior College, Boise State College, and Boise State University before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1967. Steve proudly served his country in Vietnam and Japan as an avionics technician in the 1st Marine Air Wing. After leaving the military, he went to work for Idaho Power, where he worked for 28 years as a meter specialist in Emmett, Horseshoe Bend, High Valley and Garden Valley.
While working at Idaho Power, he met and fell in love with his wife Sue. They settled in Emmett where they raised their two daughters, Sarah and Samantha. After retiring from Idaho Power, he worked for the Idaho State Tax Commission and then the Board of Medicine until he retired for the second time in 2010.
Steve loved being an "Old Car Guy." He enjoyed hours of quality time in the garage with his classic cars and was a resource for other classic car enthusiasts in the area. Steve was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his dad in father-son tournaments. He loved traveling to the Oregon coast and treating his family to Disneyland trips, where dreams really do come true. He also enjoyed taking photos of his family, his cars, and the beautiful Idaho scenery.
Steve was a dedicated family man, a loving husband, dad, son, brother and uncle.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Brian.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Sue; his daughters Sarah (Peter) Funk and Samantha; his sister Judi (Tom) McGee; numerous nieces and nephews; and grand-pets Daysi and Brier.
The family would like to thank the Boise VA Hospital, Heart 'n Home Hospice in Emmett, and his wonderful nurse Sheila for the excellent and compassionate care he received. A special thanks to the Emmett United Methodist Church for the support they have given our family.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 9, 2014, at Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett at 3 p.m.
