Thelma Adair Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 8, 2016.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Thelma L. Dotson Adair will be held on October 9, 2016 at Zion Hill Church in the Walton Community. The family will receive visitors at 2 pm. and the service will be at 3 pm. with Josh Adair officiating. This will be under the direction of Eubanks Funeral Home of Canton, Texas.
Thelma was born July 6, 1928 and passed away October 7, 2016.
Thelma was born to loving parents, Charlie Thomas Dotson and Allie Wallace. She attended school at Rock Hill and Old Bethel and high school at Martins Mill. She met and married her soul mate, Harvey Verrill Adair on September 19, 1944 in Henderson County. They raised three children in the Bethel community: Francis Nell Adair, Harvey Gene Adair and Timmy Royce Adair. Thelma was a dedicated Christian with faith in God and was always thinking positive. She was always supportive and always encouraging as a loving mother.
As the children grew up and wanted to attend college, Thelma decided it was time for her to continue her education and fulfill more of her dreams and callings in life. She felt her calling was to be a caretaker and help people. After training, she started working as a nurse's aide at Athens Nursing Home with the late Mrs. Nannie Gibbs. She was totally dedicated to helping those people in need. She was encouraged by Mrs. Gibbs to do more schooling and become a certified nursing home administrator in which she accomplished. She was a Nursing Home Administrator from 1967 to 1992 while working in different nursing homes in east Texas area. She retired in 1992 to become the basic caregiver of her soul-mate which she did until his death in 1998. Afterwards, she continued her role as caregiver to individual families.
Thelma was a lady of great love, energy and enthusiasm. She lived to make those around her more joyful, faithful and feel greatly cared for and loved. She centered everything on her faith and family. No one ever graced her presence without feeling her love. She loved God, she loved her husband, and she loved her family.
She received many awards and accolades for her hard work over the years. She was so proud of her accomplishments because she felt like she had done the Lord's will. She never quit being a caretaker even after she herself was admitted to South Place Nursing Home. She continued to take care of her roommates and the other patients. Her calling in life to be a caretaker never left her and will never leave the families of those she cared for through the years.
She was a past member of the Texas Nursing Home Administration, American College of Nursing, American College of Healthcare Administrators, Business and Professional Women. She was a member of Zion Hill Church and her life served as an example to all of those around her.
She is survived by her brother, Claude E. Dotson, and his wife, Faye of Troup; her three children: daughter, Francis and her husband, Gene Bethea of Murchison, Harvey Gene and his wife, Linda; and Timmy R. Adair and his wife, Linda Gale, of the Bethel Community. She is survived by grandchildren: Trevor D. Bethea (Polly), Jennifer Bethea Hamm, Brandon T. Bethea (Margaret), Jarrod Adair (Sylvia), Josh Adair (Sara), Jeff Adair (Katie); Heath Adair (Summer), and Heather Adair Pruitt (Dwayne).
Great grandchildren: Keegan Adair, Madeline Pruitt, Mallory Pruitt; Carson Adair, Haylee Adair Cravey Levi Adair; Cade Adair, Vance Adair, Everly Rose and Wylder Brooks Hamm, Jeff Adair, and Joshua Cameron. She is also survived by nephew, Buddy Dotson, and nieces, Karen Allen, Kathy Dansvy, Karlyn Simmons and Carla Williamson.
Great Great Grandchild, Eaina Cravey.
Pallbearers: Don Wilbanks, Jerry Wayne Adair, Harlon Adair, Buddy Dotson, Devon Weatherford, and Jeff Munns.
A special thanks to the staff of South Place Nursing Home for all of their tender love and care of our precious loved one.
Interment will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery.
