Theodore Shapiro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2012.
Ted Shapiro passed away peacefully at his home on November 23, 2012 at the age of 97. Ted was a gentle, devoted, kind, hardworking and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a man with a wonderful sense of humor.
Ted was born on February 17, 1915 in Malden, Massachusetts and was raised in Philadelphia and New York. He received his law degree in New York in the early 1940s before he enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served in Europe during World War II where he was injured in battle and received a Purple Heart for his service. During the war years Ted met and married his beloved Marica Cooper, with whom he enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage until her death in 2006. Ted retired from the Army as a Captain and relocated with his wife Maricia to Dallas in 1946. He worked for almost 40 years as a salesman for Zelrich Steel Company, which was later acquired by Cargill Inc. Nothing was more important to Ted than his family and his actions constantly proved this during his life.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents Meyer and Millie, his wife Maricia, his brothers Abe and Sidney, his sister Diane and his daughter in law Debby.
He is survived by his sons Fred and Don Shapiro, Fred's wife Dr. Karen Bradshaw, his grandchildren Melinda, Alex (and his wife Stephanie) and Kate, and his dedicated caregivers Minnie and Leah.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Temple Emanu-El or Children's Cancer Fund of Dallas.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Lefkowitz Chapel, Temple Emanu-El. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
