Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 15, 2012.
Thomas E. Lynch, 18, of Harveys Lake, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, shortly after arrival in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center Emergency Room, Plains Township, due to injuries received in a motor vehicle accident in Dallas Township.

Tom was born Dec. 21, 1993, in Kingston, and was the son of Liz deLeur Lynch, with whom he resided.

A Dallas High School senior, Tom was a member of the Boy Scouts Two Mountain District Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania and earned his Eagle Badge on his birthday last Dec. 21. His Eagle Scout Project was building an information center for the Back Mountain Trail on Harris Hill Road. He also traveled to Philmont, N.M., on a high adventure trip.

Thomas had enlisted in the U.S. Army and was scheduled to report to Fort Benning, Ga., on Aug. 8, with the ambition to be a cavalry scout.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are uncles, Leonard deLeur and Nancy Campbell, Dallas; Willem deLeur, Nicolaas deLeur, his wife, Michele, and Christian deLeur and his wife, Maureen, all of Harveys Lake; Raymond deLeur, Casper, Wyo.; and aunts, Wilhelmina Parsons and her husband, John, and Shirley deLeur, both of Harveys Lake. Additional "special family members" include Gail Anthony, Virginia Mathias and Bill Exarhopoulos, and Boy Scout Troop 281. Also surviving are numerous cousins and numerous relatives in Holland.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. Robert G. Wood, pastor of Dallas United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service on Friday.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Troop 281 Endowment Fund, c/o Ronald Santora, Scout Master, 25 Parsonage St., Dallas, PA 18612.

Dear Liz, I am so sorry to hear of your son Tommy. I am sorry I never got to meet your son I know he had to be a beautiful person. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I am so sorry and nothing you can say really helps your pain. I would love to talk to you some time and let you tell me about your son and incredible person you reaised. Reading all the posts I can tell he made his mark and a difference in the lives of others while he was with us. I will be lifting you up in my prayers each day so you can get through this. Even though we have never met, we share losing a child. My 19 yr old daugher went home to be with the Lord as a result of an auto accident on her way to college. Please allow God to give you the strength to walk thru the days ahead. God loves us with an everlasting love and he will never waste the hurt we feel. We will never know why, but we know we will see them again someday. Also, the memories we have cannot be taken away from us. I will continue to pray for you.

I didn't really know Tom but i met him this past weekend at Polar Bear. He was incredibly nice to me and the other members of my crew. On Saturday night he sat down to help us with our failing attempt at building a spaghetti and marshmallow tower. That morning he mad us laugh by telling us to be as loud as his tie dyed pants. He mad us smile a lot this weekend. I can't put in words how sorry I am for your loss. He really did leave a mark on us. The scouting family lost an eagle and we will not forget him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. While I can't even begin to imagine the pain you are going through right now try to concentrate on the happy times, and how proud Tom was to obtain Eagle. While no longer with us physically he will always remain your heart, and in the heart of everyone he has touched. Tommy was my classroom high school helper. He worked with the children and they really enjoyed him. We held a community meeting where the children shared their memories and feelings of how much they liked Tommy. We will miss him very much. My fondest memory is that he was so excited about his weekend at camp...I find comfort in knowing how happy he was during his last days on earth.. May he enjoy his rewards in paradise this day!

Dear Liz and deLeur Family,
We did not know Tom but our son is also an Eagle Scout from Troop 281 making us part of that "special family", which they truly are. You can be so proud of his accomplishments. We can't even imagine what you are feeling right now. I'm sure it's hard to understand why he has been taken at such a young age but I'm sure God has a special plan for him. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Tom truly is soaring with the eagles.
