JONES TOM B., MD
Of Greenville, peacefully passed away on Sept. 5, 2013. Tom was born on Sept. 2, 1934, to Dr. Harry Bradford Jones, MD and Marquerite Augusta Benjamin Jones in New Sheffield, PA. He graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1954, Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA in 1952, and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1959. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1959-1960. On July 9, 1960, he married the former Mary Rose Keane. Following his military service, Tom established a medical practice in New Brighton/Beaver Falls, PA. For many reasons, he decided to return to Mercy Hospital and started a radiology residency in 1969. From 1969 until completion of his residency in 1972, he worked in the emergency room of Untied Hospital, Beaver Falls, PA. Tom and his wife Mary moved to Greenville in 1972, and he worked as a Diagnostic Radiologist at Greenville Regional Hospital until his retirement in 1996. In addition to holding many positions of importance through his medical staff appointment at Greenville Hospital, Tom was exceptionally active in St. Michael's Church in Greenville. There he was an extraordinary minister, member of the building committee, spiritual formation committee, pastoral council, and the cursillo movement. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. In January 2007, he received the Parish Appreciation Award and he was awarded the Erie Diocese Bishop's Commendation for service in August of 2011. Tom will be remembered for his unending devotion to his family, his profession, his patients, and to his faith. His service to all was never questioned and his legacy will live on. Tom is survived by four daughters, Mary Elizabeth Cano and her husband Frank of Greenville, Karen Marie Hamm and her husband James of New Castle, Molly Susan Copple and her husband Brian of Gibsonia, Maureen Rose Jones of Greenville; seven sons, Thomas Benjamin Jones, Jr. M.D. and his wife Darlene of Warren, Ohio, Daniel Keane Jones PhD and his wife Tina of Utica, NY, Carl Richard Jones of Gibsonia, David William Jones and his wife Deb of Knox, PA, Kenneth Earl Jones M.D. and his wife Michele of Warren, OH, Michael Anthony Jones M.D. and his wife Erica of Warren, OH, and Christopher Robert Jones and his wife Karen of Wexford, and 32 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three brothers, Harry B. Jones, Jr. M.D., Carl E. Jones, and Richard S. Jones. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael School Endowment Fund, 85 N. High St., Greenville, PA 16125. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Most Reverend Donald W. Trautman, Bishop Emeritus of Erie as Celebrant, and Father John L. Miller serving as homilist.
