WILLIAM JOHN BARTEK JR.

CUERO - William John Bartek Jr., 79, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008. He was born on July 18, 1928, in Yoakum, to William J. and Carrie Mae Vyvial Bartek. He served in the Merchant Marines, U.S. Coast Guard from 1944-1945, U.S. Marines from 1945-1947, and again from 1952-1953. Mr. Bartek retired from Southwestern Bell after 25 years. He married Irene Blaschke on April 12, 1958, in Yoakum. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, past commander of Cuero VFW, and a member of the American Legion in Cuero.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Irene B. Bartek of Cuero; daughters, Carla Goehring and husband Jason of Richmond, Belva Farris and husband Ronnie of Cuero, Eileen Matejicek and husband Gene of Victoria, Edna Lawson and husband Tim of Yantis; sons, William J. Bartek III of Cuero, Robert Bartek and wife Wendy of Dripping Springs, Gary Henrichs and wife Gail of Victoria; a brother, Richard Bartek of Yoakum; granddaughters, Courtney Goehring, Chrissy Matejicek, and Jackie Modrow; grandsons, Cameron Farris, Case Farris, Samuel Bartek, Matthew Bartek, Jackson Goehring, John Simmons, and Cody Lawson; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Willie Marie "Dolly" Harrelson, Lillian Marie "Jean" Fagan, and Helen A. Ramage; and a brother, Robert Jo Bartek.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 18, 2008, at St. Micheal's Catholic Church with the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
