William Law Obituary

Law, William "Bill" Age 73, formerly of Oswego, IL and San Jacinto, CA, passed away at the home of his daughter in Aurora, IL on April 16, 2012. Bill was born November 3, 1938 in Edinburgh, Scotland to William and Mary (Young) Law. He completed his British national service from 1960-1962 in the Royal Military Police and also completed paratrooper training during his military service. Upon discharge from the army he served as a police officer in Edinburgh for a short time. He then entered the field of pipefitting which led to a position with Burgess Norton Manufacturing of Geneva, IL. Bill obtained US citizenship in 1972 which allowed him to return to the field of law enforcement. He spent 5 years with the Kendall County Sheriff's Department. In 1977 he began serving the Village of Oswego in the police department. Bill retired from the department in 1998 being the first officer to achieve the rank of Lieutenant. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. After retiring he relocated to San Jacinto, CA where he remained until his failing health brought him to the home of his daughter in Aurora IL. He is survived by a brother, Stuart (Dawn) Law and sister, Kathleen (George) Hunter, both of Edinburgh, Scotland; his daughter, Karen (Maurice) Leyland of Aurora and a son, Richard (Mariam) Law of Bloomington, IL, five grandchildren, Marine Sgt Chad (Amber) Lockman of Oceanside, CA, Tyler J. Lockman of Tempe, AZ, Gavin R. Lockman of Dekalb, IL, Benjamin Law of Goeppingen, Germany, Alexandra Law also of Germany and several nieces and a nephew in the UK. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary; his first wife and the mother of his children, Harriet "Scottie" Bodell in 2010 and his loving wife, Janet Law in 2005. Interment will be private, managed by DuPage Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to the ASPCA, 424 East 92nd St, NY, NY 10128. Words cannot express our gratitude for the compassionate care and support of Vitas Hospice team 703.

Bill was a special person who shared many a Scottish tale with us. It was always a pleasure to share a beer and/or a meal with Bill, as he always had a great story. We still have the can of Haggis he brought us! Rest In Peace, Bill. Thoughts and Prayers to Karen and Family.
