William Sprague Obituary

LITTLE VALLEY - William L. Sprague, 88, of Little Valley passed away Aug. 20, 2012, in Indiana.
He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Rochester, a son of the late Dr. William and Mary Axelby Sprague. On April 30, 1948, he married his beloved Marjorie Buckley, who survives.
He was a rural carrier in Little Valley for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He also was a five-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Hobson in World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and F&AM Lodge 1178. He was also a former member of the Orion Lodge 812 in Little Valley, serving as its treasurer for 40 years.
Mr. Sprague was a very active member and a former deacon of the First Congregational Church in Little Valley.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Ronald (Jessie) Sprague of Belfast, Bruce (Patty) Sprague of Crown Point, Ind., and Thomas Sprague of Little Valley; and 11 grandchildren, Erin, Heather, Tracy, Ethan, Dustin, Jessica, Michael, Steven, Carolyn, Sarah and Nathan; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Sprague of Ithaca; and four nieces.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan Sprague; and a great-granddaughter, Breanna Love.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (June 8, 2013) at Little Valley Rural Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St., Little Valley.

We have so many memories of Bill and Marj having grown up on Rock City Street. I remember going in to the post office to visit my dad and would see Bill there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I know that the memories you have made will ease the sadness some.
