Winnifred Everdine Wilcox

With sadness, the family would like to announce the peaceful passing on Sunday, February 28, 2016.

She was predeceased by her husband Stewart Wilcox, brother Martin, mother Grace (nee Smeeton), and father John De Wit. She is survived by her son, J. Garth Wilcox (Lee), her daughter Jennifer Meub (Craig), grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Jordan, Anna, and her brother Johnny De Wit.

Winnifred's pride and fulfilment was spending as much time as possible with her family, and her son's dogs.

Winnifred was born on December 23, 1934. She grew up on Dugald Road and attended King George School, and Norwood Collegiate. She then completed her Registered Nursing Degree at the Winnipeg General Hospital. As a young woman, Win travelled and briefly lived in New York and Texas. She had many stories to tell of those adventures! After meeting Stewart on a blind date, they remained married for fifty years. They both enjoyed travelling to England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Hawaii and Mexico. She was a passionate and devoted nurse. Her career started at Medox, and she also worked for many years at the Victoria General Hospital. She made many connections during her nursing career, and many of her peers remember her fondly. She was also a very talented seamstress. She started sewing highland dance costumes for her daughter, but unexpectedly turned this hobby into a business venture. She gained a following of people who not only respected her work, but enjoyed her company as well. They stayed in touch with Win for years even after she retired from sewing kilts. Win was selective with choosing her friends, but if you were fortunate enough to have her in your life, you would have a loyal and enriching friendship forever!

The family is planning a private ceremony at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home.
