Wladimir Schachow, 85, of Davenport, passed away peacefully Friday, November 18, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 21, at the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, with an Orthodox prayer service at 4 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Schachow was born June 15, 1920, in Tula, Russia, the son of Maxim and Vera Schachow. He married Eugenia Schidlowska in 1945 in Landshut, Germany. In 1951, they came to the United States to Davenport and became American citizens in 1957.
Mr. Schachow was a World War II Veteran of the Russian Army. He worked for Howard Steel Company, Davenport, for thirty-two years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the International Association of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers, Local 691.
He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed photography and was an accomplished musician. As a young man following the war, he toured with the Russian National Dance Troupe as a musician and dancer for the American U.S.O. He was devoted to his family and valued his many friendships.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Eugenia; sons and daughters-in-law, Oleg and Sandra, of Davenport, Vladimir and Chris, of Browns Point, Wash., George and Andrea, of Cedar Springs, Mich., and Peter and Stacy, of Davenport; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Raia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ivan; and sisters, Anastasia and Maria.
