Sister Anne Baxter

Sister Anne Baxter, formerly known as Sister Barbara Anne Baxter, died on Feb. 6, 2016, at the Dominican Life Center. She was 83 years of age and in the 66th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Anne was born in San Francisco, Calif., to Earl and Anne (McCarthy) Baxter. She graduated from Holy Cross School in Santa Cruz, Calif., and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, a Master of Teaching degree in American history and Master of Arts degree in school administration/supervision, both from the University of San Francisco, and a Master of Arts degree in spirituality/counseling from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. Sister also was certified as a Level III chemical dependency counselor in Colorado.

Sister spent 30 years ministering in elementary education in Detroit, Mich.; Oakland, San Francisco and Los Angeles, Calif.; Chicago, Ill.; Bisbee, Ariz.; and Pueblo, Colo. Sister Anne served for two years as a community organizer in Denver; 15 years as a counselor and psychotherapist in Pueblo, Colo.; and neighborhood ministry in Beulah, Colo., for 14 ½ years.

Sister is survived by a cousin, E.J. Bowler of Kentfield, Calif.

Welcome of Sister Mary will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, in Madden Hall; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the Adrian room of Madden Hall. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7 p.m. in Holy Rosary Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in Holy Rosary Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
