Reva Carroll Obituary

Reva "Fuzzy" Carroll Passed away peacefully on April 21, 2013 at Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital which was her home for the last 14 years. Reva was born in Hastings, Nebraska on June 3, 1928.  She came to the Ione area when she was 7 and then moved to Lodi. She graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1947 and had been attending most of the yearly school reunions.
She worked at the old downtown theater when she was 17 and then later worked for Wright's Stationary Store, Kay's Yarn Shop, UOP's Bookstore and then the Tokay Bowl for about 30 years.  She worked the counter, put together leagues, teams, taught bowling and anything else they needed.  While bowling in State tournaments with her friends, they went to New York, Florida, and various other places.  They went on a few cruises when they bowled in Florida to the Caribbean.
She really had some really great times with some really great friends at Tokay Bowl.  Mom got her nickname of "FUZZY" when she worked at the bowling alley.  Let's just say that the weather and her hair didn't agree one day and the name stuck.  Mom also liked to golf and play softball.  She played softball until she was 50.  She also did some boating with Raynette and Larry.  Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with parkinson's disease when she was in her early 50's.  She continued to work until about age 61 when she had to retire which was very difficult for her.  Mom was the biggest people person you could ever meet. Always smile on her face and always a friend to everyone she met. As the Parkinson's progressed she had 24 hour care at home when she was about 66. She had brain surgery for it at UCSF and went from 24 hour care to living by herself.  It was amazing. Then as the disease continued and she had many falls, in 1999 she had an injury that sent her to Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital to recuperate and she decided to stay. She was only 70 years old and had been there since. Everyone there was like a family member for her and for us. They loved her dearly and treated her with love and respect that we (I) will never forget. We thank Dr. Nancy Santos for over 20 years of loving care and to Dr. Mani Madyoon for his years of continued loving care. Big thanks to everyone at Fairmont for making mom's life the best it could be.  We couldn't have asked for more. Reva is survived by 2 daughters, Lynn Renea Carroll and Raynette Fergason and husband Larry.  Grandsons William Tahran (Victoria) and Shane Tahran and fiancé Liz.  She's also survived by her ex-husband and friend Bill Carroll, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jay and Midge Freeman, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her longtime roommate Kathryn.  Also by a step-brother Gary (Mary). She's preceded in death by her mother Lela Ochsner and her father and step-mom Alvin and Jill Ochsner.  One thing mom always wanted to do was to donate her body to science so since she had her surgery at UCSF that's where she decided.  In lieu of flowers please send any remembrances to:
UCSF, Willed Body Program, School of Medicine AC-14, San Francisco, Ca.  94143-0902 Or The American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY, 10305
A celebration of life will be held at Vinewood Church but will be announced soon.   Please sign the guest book at www.lodinews.com/guestbook

I remember Fuzzy from when I was a little tyke until I was a teen. My mother Ellouise James worked with her and loved her dearly. I remember many times listening to mother tell stories about Fuzzy's and her antics and jokes while at the Bowl. I was searching the bowl is how I found this page. I wonder what happened to that picture of Bob Crane with Mother and Fuzzy in it. Dick DeGrande had it made into a large portrait that hung in the dining room. Oh well fond memories. My mom moved with me in Texas and passed in 2003. Mom still told stories of Fuzzy up till she passed. This was a picture of my mom from the Tokay Bowl days she was on her break from a split shift still in her skirt and white blouse from work.

Raynette and familiy, I have some of my earliest memories of growing up in Lodi with Reva in them! She was the nicest, most pleasant person who practically rushed to help even a little kid out at the bowling alley. As the years went by she always had a kind word for everyone around her. that never changed even in her later years. She was loved and will be missed by many.

I was so sad when I heard of the passing of our dear Aunt Jeannie. We have many, many great memories though. I grew up in Tokay Bowl and she was always there! Of course that was just a small part that she played in our lives. I will miss her but what a wonderful contribution she has made to researching a cure to Parkinson's. My heart goes out to Reanette & Larry and Renea. Love to you all.

May 11, 2013

We were saddened to hear about Reva. She was a terrific lady and will be remembered fondly. We were friends for many years and will always remember her wonderful smile! Lyle and Betty

So sorry to hear of Fuzzy passing away. What a great Lady.. My mother Carol Geer just loved her and was an avid bowler as was I.. Momma left us in 2011. So her and Fuzzy are probably bowling up a storm in Heaven.. God bless all of you.. I just loved her.. and when tokay bowl closed she was the one I missed the most.. Nona Geer -Adams

I was so sorry to hear that "Fuzzy" has passed away. I played softball with her when I was 16 and the first city league was formed. Petite Beauty Salon didn't win many games in fact, we lost our first one 19-1, but she taught me so much about trying hard, that was success to her. She was one of the best I ever played with. Fuzzy, someday we will turn double plays again together. Much love and many prayers to your family.

A golden heart stopped beating!

I am very sad to hear of Fuzzy's passing! My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Thank you Fuzzy for teaching me so much in life just by being you. I will cherish many memories...Tokay Bowl, racing and road trips, going to the casino (one of your favorites), UCSF and laughing so hard we would cry and couldn't catch our breath. You will forever be my grandma and I was always proud that you called me your granddaughter. I miss you and love you deeply!!

April 30, 2013

So sorry to hear of the loss of Reva. I will miss her beautiful smile and laughter, (even brought a few "Happy Tears" to her eyes), whenever I would play "Daddy Sang Bass" for her. She would always laugh when I had to do the "Mama Sang Tenor" part in a falsetto vocie. And if she thought that I was not going to perform that particular song, she would always get someone to ask me for it. I would never forget doing it for her, though.

I know that someone up in Heaven will sing it one more time for her.

God Bless you Reva, and your family....

I practically grew up in the bowling alley and Fuzzy was an amazing part of my childhood and the memories I have there. She was a wonderful person and was loved by everyone that was lucky enough to know her.

Raynette, Larry and Renea, I am so sorry to hear of Reva's passing. She was like a second Mama to me when I lived next door to them, many years ago. We shared all our meals together of which she would teach me how to cook. Then the wonderful memories of me and Reva watching old movies together while ironing. I was just a newly wed at the time so she taught me a lot! I still think of her many times through out the day. She was a lovely person and she will be missed!

Fuzzy,
May you find peace with the Lord. You taught me to bowl probably over 50 years ago. I will never forget how sweet you were and what fun bowling brought into my life. That's about all there was around here to do back then and it kept us all out of trouble. I never forgot your kindness and when I saw you later in life, I always felt bad. You had a special way with kids and you were a fun lady.
May you rest in peace and have fun bowling whenever you want !!

I hope Fuzzy will be happy and bowling her little self crazy. I am now 64 and I can still remember Fuzzy teaching me how to bowl. I wasn't too bad either!!! :-) You were an unforgetable LADY and I will always remember the fun that bowling and You brought into my life.
Rest In Peace pretty lady and Thank You for what you taught me.

My sympathy goes out to Reva's family. I am the niece of Al & Jill Ochsner. My father was Leonard Bull who was Jill's brother. God bless all of the family members during this difficult time. I met Reva several times many years ago. It sounds like she truly enjoyed people which in itself is a gift.

It is with great sorrow to hear of the passing of Fuzzy, a dear a loving friend to my mother Dianne Case, and her children I have so many memories I could share, but the one that I loved so much was each year, at Christmas time we would take fuzzy around town, my mom, myself and my girls to look at the lights, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" was said from her through out the ride always saying "that is the best one" we had to stop our fun time a few yrs back when mommas dementia got so bad, Fuzzy was and always will be, the pillar of love and laughter, warm heart and kind words to all who knew her..my deepest sympathy to her children, grandchildren and family..
