Arlene Rymer Obituary
Rymer, Arlene
Arlene Rymer, of Deerfield Beach, FL, passed away on February 5, 2012, at the age of 86. Born in Bilgoray, Poland to Moses and Dora on June 28, 1925, she immigrated to the United States in 1949 and lived her life in the Bronx, the Catskill Mountains and Deerfield Beach, FL. She married Sam in 1946 and they were married for 60 wonderful years.
A Holocaust survivor, Arlene led an incredible life, managing to turn unthinkable injustice into uncharacteristic strength and grace in her newfound life in America. She exuded a serenity that comes only from a life well led, where experience and wisdom lead to an enhanced ability to understand pain yet focus on joy. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma and friend. She lived her life focused solely on what was important - family, friends, faith and love. She spent her time thinking not of herself, but of those she loved and how to make their lives better. It is this selflessness and quiet strength that will be her lasting mark. Her cookies weren't too shabby either. You will be forever loved, Nanny.
She is survived by her son, Dr. William Rymer, and his wife Cheryl, of Boca Raton, FL; her son, Dr. Peter Rymer and his wife Beverly, of Suffern, NY; her five grandchildren and their spouses, Adam, Chantal, Andrew, Lila, Allison, Matthew, Annie and Jake; her great-grandson, Wolfe; and her favorite dog, Taylor Maid. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11:30am at Nanuet Hebrew Center, 411 South Little Tor Road, New City, NY 10956. Interment will follow at Wellwood Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. Shiva will be observed starting on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 7:30pm through Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Peter Rymer in Suffern, NY. Donations may be made in Arlene's name to The Holocaust Museum and Study Center of Rockland County, 17 South Madison Avenue, Spring Valley, NY 10977. (845) 356-2700.
