Calvin Walton Obituary
New Rochelle - Calvin Leroy Walton, a resident of New Rochelle and Mount Vernon, passed away on September 14, 2018 at United Hebrew Nursing Home in New Rochelle. He was born on July 28, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio to Harry Charles Walton, Sr. and Margaret Childs-Walton.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Dayton, earned a Bachelors Degree from Tennessee State University, and Masters Degrees from Ohio State University and Harvard University.
His professional experience ranged from the Governor's Human Rights Commission in Minnesota, to the Independent Trucker's League, United Negro College Fund and the Frederick Douglass Institute. He taught political science at the College of New Rochelle and Touro College.
He married Vera Jean Nared on September 1, 1953. She predeceased him in 2007. He is survived by six children, Leslie, Vincent, Margaret, Karla, Calvin W., and Frederick; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He served as a Deacon and Trustee at Bethesda Baptist Church. He was a member of the New Rochelle branch of the NAACP and the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Viewing at Bethesda Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 25 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Internment at Beechwoods Cemetery in New Rochelle.
