CARMELO CASCIO Obituary

Carmelo "Mal" Cascio, a longtime resident of Port Chester, died of natural causes on September 2, 2010 in Port Chester. He was 92. Mr. Cascio worked as a Mason for various contractors in the metropolitan region. He retired in 1976. He was a member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #5 in New York. Mr. Cascio was born July 30, 1918 in Westfield, MA to James and Angelina Baccari Cascio. He was educated in Westfield, MA and Port Chester, NY and graduated from Port Chester High School in 1935. Mr. Cascio served infantry in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945, attaining the rank of Platoon Sgt. He received 3 Battle Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star for his service in the European and Pacific theatres of war. On January 20, 1946 he married Mildred Esposito at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester, NY. Mr. Cascio lived in Port Chester for the past 82 years. Locally he was a member of Corpus Christi Parish. Mr. Cascio will be remembered for intellectual curiosity, sense of humor and his love of his family, the Yankees and country. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, three children Susan Menick, Judith Cascio and Vincent Cascio, his son in law John Menick and daughter in law Diane Ritch Cascio. He is also survived by four grandsons, John Menick Jr., Vincent Cascio Jr., James Cascio and Daniel Chiappetta. Calling hours are 4-8 PM TODAY at Joseph Tutera Funeral Home Inc., 121 S. Regent St., Port Chester. The Funeral is 9:00 AM Saturday at Corpus Christi Church. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Westfield, MA.
