JOANNE FERRIS FINLEY

Joanne Ferris Finley, former resident of Belvedere, SC, died on March 26, 2001 of complications from diabetes. Mrs. Finley was born and grew up in Rye, NY and was the daughter of the late Henry Underhill Ferris, whose early family were settlers of Rye and the late Catherine Bartenhagen Ferris. Having lived in Belvedere, SC since 1973, Mrs. Finley was formerly the president of Belvedere Women's Club and served many years on the Belvedere School Board of Education. She had also been Office Manager of a large company selling copiers in Belvedere. One of the things of which Mrs. Finley was the most proud was being one of the first women to be accepted and matriculate at the University of Alabama's School of Engineering. Mrs. Finley is survived by her sons James Finley of Aiken, SC and John Finley of Sardis, GA; daughter Janet Finley Wagner and grandchildren Kyle and Brittany Wagner of Sandy, UT; brother Donald Ferris of Newtown, CT and sister Doris Ferris Delfosse of Rye, NY. Another sister, Betty Jane Ferris Ruffner, died earlier. Private services were held in Belvedere, SC and a memorial service is planned on a later date in Rye, NY.
