Beverly Wagner Obituary

Beverly Tway Wagner

Beverly Tway Wagner was born in Louisville, KY on February 2nd, 1939. She grew up on Mockingbird Hill, with its lush canopied trees, and attended Collegiate school, where she played field hockey. Her graduating glass of sixteen women met monthly for lunch over her entire life. She attended Bennett College and then the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and soon after met and married Walter Wagner. Together they raised four children. She was a lifelong athlete, a hands-on mom, a party giver, an enthusiastic traveler, a novel-reader, and a shrewd bridge and mahjong player.

Beverly was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church. Along the way, she was involved in many philanthropic organizations including: the Junior League of Louisville, the Fillies (who sponsor the annual Derby Fillies Ball), the Speed Museum, the Parkinson's Support Center of Kentuckiana and served on the board for the Morton Center. She also read for the blind.

For over thirty years, Beverly was a member in good standing of a 12-step recovery program. A sponsee described her like this: "Beverly was a legend to many in the the program and mentored several women. I prized her honesty and how she always made me feel cared for, loved, supported and affirmed. She taught me a lot and was a wonderful model of how to live life on life's terms, all the way to the end."

Beverly died peacefully on July 5th, 2020 after a week of visits with her children and loved ones. Her family thanks Sharron Akin, her primary caregiver, for her extraordinary effort, love, care, and advocacy of their Mom. Thanks also to Sandy, Amy, Fran, Lynn, Donna, Tonya, Lynette, April, Mary, Norma, and Cherri for their loving and reliable care, and also the dedicated, staff, nurses, and aides at Miralea, the Sam Swope Care Center, and Hosparus.

Beverly will live on the hearts of friends, family, and sponsees. Her children, Walter, Katherine, Bob, and Mary and her nine grandchildren will miss her dearly. Beverly's positive attitude, especially in the face of her Parkinson's, was awe-inspiring; she never lost the ability to laugh, even at herself. Those who knew her always commented on her high-wattage smile, which she kept handy until the end of her life.

When it is again safe to gather, there will be a celebration of Beverly's life for and by those who loved her. In the meanwhile, family and friends can feel free to leave remembrances of her at Legacy.com.link. Gifts can be made to the Parkinson's Support Center of Kentuckiana, 315 Townepark Circle, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40243.

When you are the Organist of a church, you know where your favorite people sit. Each Sunday I would look for Bev Wagner on the front row of the 8:30 service at Second Pres. She was always lovely attired and usually arrived just a few minutes after the service had begun. After my Postlude, I would catch Bev and Sandy, or one of the other nice caregivers, as they were getting on the elevator. Bev always brightened my morning with her smile. I will miss her beauty and grace!

Beverly was wise, tenacious and fun. During the last several years she had difficulty speaking, but that didn’t stop her from smiling, laughing, and sharing family pics. As frequently as possible, a group of us, Fran Neal, Karen Smith and Judy Jennings. and many others, celebrated life in recovery by lunching at Lou Lou’s after a meeting.
I’m sure “ the girls“ will continue to lunch there and order a Seasonal Salad with Chicken in Beverly’s honor. I loved Beverly. I will miss her. I already do.

Beverly was my mentor, friend, work out partner, and loving sponsor. She led With wisdom and compassion. She touched so many lives and left them all better for knowing her. The world has lost a beautiful soul.

I was introduced to Beverly by Rosemary. Beverly had such a gentle soul. As what has already been said she told you exactly how she saw it. Loved her honesty. I will miss knowing she is in Louisville. She attended Unity when I was there. Loved seeing her. She will be missed.

I first met Beverly in 2011, as she began to explore a new chapter in moving to Miralea. She was the picture of elegant, humble and delightful grace - often carrying a cane to match her outfit! Her intellect, sense of humor and emotional intelligence seemed to glow, even as her steps became more faltering. The love shining from her eyes, when her speech became more difficult, was clear and powerful. Her determination to live fully, day-by-day, on life terms was inspiring. I will always remember Beverly with a full and grateful heart. My deep sympathy to all of her loyal, loving family, caregivers and close friends.

Beverly was a bright light in this world. She brought a smile to my face whenever I saw her. Her words and her hugs were always full-hearted. We now have another spirit guide with us.

Beverly will always be in my heart. She was the bravest woman I've ever met. I am so grateful to have had the honor and privilege of spending so many years in her presence. The Wagner family is, and will always be, dear to my heart. I miss her already.

Beverly and I met on a Saturday morning about 20 years ago when attending a meeting together. Sitting across from her, she smiled and it lite up the room. She was loved and respected by all. When she had surgery a few years later, several of us took a meeting to her house and it lasted for 15 years. She was always so welcoming, the perfect hostess, honest and open with suggestions and shared freely of herself to help others. She was also great at asking tough questions to make us think about our motives and expectations. It was a privilege to attend bible school with her, take the kitties to be blessed at church (not a good experience for them) and be her friend for all these years. She gave me so much. Fly, sing & dance now Beverly. Peace and love to all the family.
