Elizabeth Hagerty Obituary

Hagerty, Elizabeth (Liz) Lahr,

HAGERTY, Elizabeth (Liz) Lahr, 93, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017, surrounded by family.

Liz was born July 14, 1924, in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1926. Her family lived in Detroit for several years before settling in Chicago, where Liz went to Northwestern University. In 1959, she moved to Louisville with her husband John. It was there where they raised their seven children.

John and Liz were longtime members of St. James Catholic Church and were active members of various bridge groups. She was loved by her friends and family, who cherished her sharp mind, quick wit, her generous and inclusive hospitality, and her unconditional love for her family. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John C. Hagerty, and leaves behind her seven children, Joan Chandler (Mike), James Hagerty (Anne), Charles Hagerty (Janet), Brian Hagerty (Kathy), Jack Hagerty (Michelle), Robert Hagerty, and Mary Ann Hilt (Rodney); 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her body was donated to the University of Louisville for medical research. A memorial service has been planned for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017, at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S 6th St. A family visitation will immediately follow the service at Treyton Oak Towers, 211 W. Oak St.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Louis Bertrand Church or Treyton Oak Towers. A special thank you goes out to the nursing staff and doctors at University of Louisville Hospital, whose care and attention during her final days was deeply appreciated.
