Jay Hagan Obituary

HAGAN, JAY, beloved husband of Cheryl Hufford Hagan, passed away peacefully, January 30, 2011 at Hosparus of Louisville after a lengthy battle with lymphoma.

He was born September 29, 1949 to Francis Leon Hagan and Susan Lavinia (Jean) Hagan.

Jay was a graduate of the University of Louisville Speed School, proud veteran of the US Army. He was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers after years of service.

Affectionately know as Captain America, for his avid wearing every day of one of his numerous red, white and blue patriotic shirts.

Jay was also an accomplished photographer. He combined his love of travel and photography by numerous trips with his wife Cheryl, to scenic destinations in and out of the country.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, and younger sister, Faith Ann Craycroft.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cheryl; brothers, Frank, Michael, Jessie, and David, and one sister, Theresa Messer. He was uncle to Colleen and Sean Hagan, Luke and Sean Patrick Hagan, Timmy and Larry Messer, Cary and Callie Jo Craycroft and Elise and Clare Hagan; and Charlie III, Justin, Jason and Michael Hufford, Matthew, Daniel, Eric Jay Kuhl and Cheryl Diane Kuhl-Paine.

Per his wishes, there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Dear Cheryl-I am so very sad for all who knew and loved him-that Jay has left this world. But I am so happy for him that he is no longer in pain and is
with our Lord in Heaven. He was truly a remarkable man. He WILL be missed.

Jay will be remembered everytime we see a rainbow or waterfall. He found beauty in the world around us and in words. He was friend to all. A special man who will not be forgotten. May God comfort his family at this time and especially his love, Cheryl. I was lucky to know him.

My sincere condolences to Jay's family and friends.

Good friends are very precious, and when we lose one, it hurts terribly because it leaves such a deep void in our hearts. About the only thing that seems to sustain and comfort us is our memory of that loved one; our silent remembrance.

Good bye, old friend, I will never forget you, especially when St. Patrick's Day rolls around.

Jay was a gentle soul in a sometimes harsh world. Every time we spoke, he made you feel like you were the only person who mattered to him at that moment. His generosity was immense and very much appreciated by myself and others. Always to be remembered and loved. Rest in peace, Jay. May you have rainbows with you forever.
Peace, Robyn / Fly,Robyn,Fly!
