Taylor Gernert Obituary

Gernert, Taylor Elizabeth,

March 17, 1998 - June 18, 2015

No child has ever been cherished or loved more intensely than Taylor. Although she was never able to speak to us, her spirit was expressive and joyous. Her smile melted our hearts. Her giggles made us laugh. Her courage made us cry. Her beautiful soul taught us how to love and accept people as they are, regardless of their abilities. Each day of her life Taylor reminded us to treasure the smallest of gifts, even in the most difficult times. She was a joy and inspiration.

Taylor is survived by her adoring parents, Reed and Susan Gernert, her protective big brothers, Alex and Ben Gernert, her loving grandparents, Julie Hargan and John Gernert, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins: Rudy, Melissa, Layne, Lyle, and Carson Gernert; Rob, Jessica, ELee, Lilly, George, Sophie, and Henry Gernert; Randy Gernert and Georgeanne Hardin; and Robin, Bobby, McKenzie, Jackson, and Alexandra Jerrell.

To the dozens of caring teachers at Highland Community Ministries [Louisville], Churchill Park School [Louisville] and Heritage House [Chesham, Buckinghamshire, England] and generous medical professionals at Kourageous Kids (Dawn, Bethany, Sheila), ResCare (Robyn, Barbara, Lynn), LinCare (Lisa, Beth, Katie, Pam, Keith), East Louisville Pediatrics (Lawrence, Markus, Stephen, Robert, Patricia), Sproutlings (Addie, Whitney, Kristin), Kids Klub, University Neurologists (Vinay, Kristin), University Pediatric Surgical Associates (Mary), Frazier Rehab (Mary Ellen), Prospect Walgreens (Martha, Denise, Christina), Hearts & Hands (Christy, Stephanie, Amy), and Kosair Children's Hospital whose passion, devotion, touch, gentle words, and knowledge enhanced Taylor's life, thank you. To those who gave Taylor the gift of music (Matt, Cindy, Carole, Sharon, Dan), please know that you were responsible for hundreds of smiles and giggles. For all of their support and patience, Reed and Susan also wish to thank their co-workers and employers, NTC and High Field & Open MRI.

A celebration of Taylor's Life will be held on June 20, Saturday at 1 pm at Bethel-St. Paul Church, 4004 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40207, followed by a private burial. Visitation will be Friday, 3 - 8pm, at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial gifts may be sent to Kourageous Kids at: Hosparus Louisville, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Dr., Louisville, KY 40205.

I remember all those smiles when she was in my classroom with Laura. I was honored to babysit her when you all need extra help. I think of her often. I missed seeing her smile at school. She has made a spot in my heart I will truly miss her.

My deepest sympathy is extended to you. I pray for God's peace and comfort to surround you. It was my honor and pleasure to know Taylor and sing for her. As I recall, she liked the Christmas music (and altos) the best! Blessings.
