Alice Ayer Obituary
longtime Wilmington resident
WILMINGTON -- Mrs. Alice M. Ayer, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on April 14th, following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred K. Ayer, and together they shared 38 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1983.
Born in Lunds Valley, ND she was one of ten children of the late Martin and Agnes (Hendrickson) Jacobson. Alice was raised and educated in North Dakota and settled in Wilmington with her late husband 66 years ago and has been a resident ever since.
Mostly devoted to her family, she took great pride in taking care of her home and her children. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and crocheting but her greatest joy was doting over and caring for her loving grandchildren as they grew.
Alice is survived by her children, Michael Ayer and his wife, Jeanne of Sandwich, Richard Ayer and his wife, Rita of Riverdale, GA, Cynthia Grenier of Wilmington and her late husband, Oliver "Al" Grenier. She was the loving grandmother of Denise and Michael Ayer, Elizabeth Shanahan - Jewitt, Mark Shanahan, Kimberly Lundgren, Kristin Saville, John and Megan Grenier. She is also survived by 11 loving great-grandchildren; and is further survived by her brother, Arthur Jacobson of ND; sisters, Lucille Meiers of ND and Lois Ellefson of SD.
She is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Clarice Jacobson, Adele Nelson, Enid Chamley, Palmer, Laverne and Mervin Jacobson.
AYER -- A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Wilmington on Thurs., April 21st, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will conclude with inurnment at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alice's memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
