Anthony J. Giardina

Anthony J. Giardina formerly of Billerica, WWII/Korean War vet; 92 TOWNSEND Anthony J. Giardina, 92, of Townsend, formerly of Billerica, died Friday, January 2, 2009, at the Health Alliance-Leominster Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Flora D. (Ashness) Giardina who died in 1994. Mr. Giardina was born in Newton, June 9, 1916, a son of Anthony and Josephine Giardina. He grew up in Waltham before moving to Billerica and later to Townsend. He is survived by five sons, John A. Giardina with whom he resided in Townsend, Joseph Narhumini and Arthur McGowan, both of California, Anthony Giardina of Nashua, NH, and Thomas Narhuminti of Maine; three daughters, Patricia Sennett and Florence Bridge, both of New Ipswich, NH, and Tina McCarthy of Lowell. He leaves a sister, Helen Hubler of Waltham; 25 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Richard Narhuminti and Lillian McGowan, and the brother of the late Salvatore Giardina, Mary Ferro, Joseph Giardina, Rose Mandile, and Steven Giardina. For over 30 years, he worked as a machinist at the J.L. Thompson Company in Waltham, retiring in 1971. He served his country in the United States Army during both WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Life Member of the Billerica VFW and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 110 in Tewskbury, and a member of the Townsend VFW. GIARDINA A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at St. John's Church, 1 School St., Townsend. Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
