Donald Higgins Obituary
Donald H. Higgins, 87, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Monday September 25, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne J. (Longtin) Higgins for 65 years.
He was born in Lowell on April 22, 1936, and was the son of the late Thomas F. and Helen V. (Kelley) Higgins.
Donald was born and raised in Lowell. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Lowell Tech after serving his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He went on to work at Raytheon Corporation for 37 years. He also started Higgins Tax Service in 1973 and continued to serve his clients up until recent years. He was a proud member of the Association of New England Football Officials, serving as association president in 1985. After retirement Donald spent his winters in Naples, FL and became an avid, if not accomplished, golfer.
In addition to his loving wife Donald leaves 4 children, Cheryl A. Cayer of Woodstock CT, Kevin D. Higgins of Chelmsford, MA, Mark E. Higgins and his wife Julie Shokum of Chelmsford, MA, and Timothy T. Higgins and his wife Valerie Higgins of Lowell, MA; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his loving sister, Nancy Gillick of Chelmsford, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by 3 siblings, Gloria (Higgins) Dudley, Thomas F. Higgins, and Phyllis (Higgins) Wojick.
It being Donald's wish, services have been omitted. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Funeral directors Paul A. Will always remember Don. His booming Irish voice echoing across the QA bull pen in the Lowell Plant. He was a unique individual and you always knew where you stood with him! Condolences to the family!

Don was my boss in Raytheon for about 5 years. He was very memorable. I missed him when we were transferred to the Raytheon Andover site. You always knew where you stood with Don. I am sad that he is gone.

I am so sorry to have heard about Don passing. I worked for him at Raytheon for many a year. He was a unique character, and bigger than life. I started at Raytheon in the Lowell Plant in the QA Bull Pen back in 1985. He truly had an impact on my life. Again sorry to hear he passed!

I am so sadden to hear of Uncle Donald´s passing . He was the light of the family with positive energy and love for all. He was kind and loving to Bob , me and our children.
He will also be remembered and his memory loved and cherished.

I had the pleasure of having many conversations with Don through my work. And even after he no longer needed our company's services, I still liked to call and check in with him because he was such a joy to speak with. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by those who loved him knew him best. Please know that he made an impact on me and I had never even met him in person. I just think he was that type of guy who made people smile. I am one of those people!

Don was an excellent football official.....often I would argue questionable calls with him during the games but when we reviewed the game films the next day, he had made the correct call. Best to all Family Members
