Doris Bennett Gray Burt

MASHPEE -- Doris Bennett Gray Burt 97, of Mashpee formerly of Maynard and Acton, died peacefully at her home on November 1, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur F. Burt.

Born in Lowell on May 11, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Maude (Bennett) Gray growing up in North Tewksbury. Doris graduated from Lowell High School, where she was a girl officer. She was a active member of the Girl Scouts, spending many summers as a counselor at their camp and earning the highest award, The Golden Eaglet in 1937. Graduating from Salem Teachers College in 1939, she taught business subjects in Pembroke High School. In the Maynard school system, she held positions as teacher of business subjects, substitute teacher and bookkeeper for school system. Retiring in 1975, she now had time for her gardening, needlepoint, camping, traveling and spending time with her family. Doris was a member of the Maynard Union Congregational Church for 63 years and a member of the Eastern Star.

Doris was predeceased by her daughter Beverly Ann Peoples and is survived by her children, Ronald Burt of Hooksett, NH, Robert Burt and his wife Marsha of Bourne, MA, Cindi Menard and her husband Lionel of Kennebunk, ME, sister-in-law Judith Burt of Tricesimo, Italy, her grandchildren; Ronald Peoples and his wife Amy, Donald Peoples, Michelle Crable and her husband John, Alicia Cunningham and her husband Aaron, Paul Bradley and his wife Silvia, Thomas Burt, Jeffrey Menard and his wife Irene and Beverly Menard; and great-grandchildren; Jennie and Kyle Peoples, Austin and Alleyna Crable, Rob, Michael and Alison Cunningham, Dominic and Lucas Bradley.

BURT -- A Memorial Service and Celebration of Doris's life will be held at the Union Congregational Church, 80 Main St., Maynard, MA on December 5th at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to The Salvation Army, 25 Shawmut Rd., Canton, MA 02021 or www.salvationarmyma.org.
