Mabel Starkey Obituary

LOWELL -- Mabel K. (MacKenzie) Starkey, 87, a longtime Lowell resident, died Friday, Oct. 28, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, after an extended illness. She was the wife of the late George O. Starkey.

She was born in Cambridge, Oct. 19, 1918, daughter of the late Duncan and Carrie (Campbell) MacKenzie. She received her early education in Cambridge, having graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1935.

She resided in Lowell for the past 55 years.

Mrs. Starkey was associated with Squirrel Brand Candies as a wrapper until the late 1940s, at which time she established her home in Lowell. She raised her family, and for a brief time worked at Hockmyer Brothers. Before retiring in 1983, Mrs. Starkey was employed in the Housekeeping Department at Lowell General Hospital for 20 years.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Donald Kudner of Wilmington, Del.; two sons and daughters-in-law, George B. and Martha Starkey of Dracut, and Frederick W. and Beth Ann Starkey of Lowell; two granddaughters, Kendra Starkey of Lowell, and Katherine Starkey of Dracut; four grandsons, Anthony Kudner of Boston, and Daniel, Andrew and Michael Starkey, all of Lowell; a sister andbrother-in-law, Elizabeth and Frederick Howe of Lowell; a brother, Duncan MacKenzie of Stoneham.

She was also the sister of the late James MacKenzie.

i knew her very well i grew up with granddaughters kendra and katie and my dad grew up with the 2 sons fred and george starkey, my dad told me that she was a second mother to him and she will be miss dearly we love you ma starkey and we will miss you dearly love the Deutchman family.
