Margarett Lee Alexander

A loving and wonderful mother.

A native Texan with a big personality and a stubborn zest for living.

Margarett ("Marge") Lee Alexander, peacefully passed on January 3, 2021. She is now in the hands of God with her family and friends who went before her. Her husband Maurice and daughter Dawn were at her side when she left us. She was long-time resident of Chelmsford, Massachusetts from 1967 until recently moving to the RiverCourt Residences in Groton, Massachusetts in November 2020. Margarett is survived by her husband of 70 years Maurice Hubert Alexander. They were married in San Antonio, Texas on February 8, 1950 and had three children: Stephen Maurice Alexander (living in Mililani, HI, wife Diane Goudreau), Jeff David Alexander (Vancouver, WA, wife Helene Miller - both deceased) and Dawn Eileen Alexander (living in Lunenburg, MA, husband Bob Leupold). She leaves three grandchildren: Shawn (Aimee Price) Alexander of Battle Ground, WA, Chad (Lynn Chibana) Alexander of Portland, OR and Rebecca Alexander of Vancouver WA; and three great-grandchildren (Hannah Price, Michael Alexander and Eli Alexander). Margarett was born on August 12, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas to Hattie Mae (Middlebrook) and Sydney Cecil Sides. Her mother died when Margarett was two weeks old, so she grew up with cousins in South San Antonio in the shadows of the San Jose Mission. She graduated from Harlandale High School. The Alexanders were a Marine Corps family and lived in many places throughout the US. Upon retirement, they settled in Chelmsford, where the kids grew up and all graduated from Chelmsford High School. Besides the most important job of mother, Marge held many jobs over the years, from civil service secretary and real estate agent to waitress. She had a love of pets, cooking, bowling, cribbage, bridge, and gardening. A gifted artist, Marge excelled at many creative activities - cake decorating, sewing - making her own and Dawn's clothes as well as flags and doll clothes, oil painting, calligraphy, counted cross stitch, scrapbooking and card making. She had a special passion for golf. She was a member of the Chelmsford (Apple) Country Club for many years chairing the Apple Tree Classic tournament and serving on the Ladies League board. She was still playing into her late 80s. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
