She was born in Lowell on Aug. 1, 1917, daughter of the late John and Mary (Sgoura) Basinas. She was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School in 1934.
In 1942, she married Mr. Pashain, and they raised their family in the Acre section of the city. She was remembered by family members for being extremely helpful to those less fortunate. Mrs. Pashian would spend much of her time grocery shopping for people who couldn't do it for themselves, family members said.
Her husband was a chef at the former Paramount Lounge and the former Epicure Restaurant. Mrs. Pashian was known to cheerfully greet patrons that her husband was cooking for at the various restaurants.
She was a member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell.
She is survived by a son, Martin Pashain of Derry, N.H.; six granddaughters, Patricia Smith and Demetrius Edwards, Dawn Comtois, Dawnelle Comtois, Michelle Comtois and Kim Pashain, all of Lowell; three grandsons, Harold Brown III of Lowell, Donald Comtois, residing in Georgia, and John Pashain.
She also leaves seven great-granddaughters, Amber Edwards, Sara-Ann Edwards, Dawnelle Comtois, Caitlin Beattie, Kathleen Beattie, Fanitsa Comtois and Mercedes Comtois, all of Lowell; and two great-grandsons, Jesse Edwards and Domingo Dimgueze, both of Lowell.
Mrs. Pashain was also the mother of the late Frances Smith, and the sister of the late Julia, Catherine, Georgie and Christine Basinas.
