Frank Leahey Obituary

Frank J. Leahey

Lansing - Frank was born in New York City on August 15, 1928 and lived with his family in Staten Island before later moving to Scarsdale. Afterfinishing high school, Frank enlisted in the Army during WWII. In addition to his service, Frank also sang for troops with the USO. Upon discharge, Frank attended Oswego College in New York where he would go on to meet his wife, Mary. Together, they had six children: Patrick Leahey (Pam), Kathleen Leahey-Clouse (Deceased), Thomas Leahey (Dorthy Shellorne), Mary Leahey-James (Clyde James), Jeannette Leahey, and Elizabeth Leahey Carella. After transferring to MSU, Frank acquired his master's degree in Special Education and went on to help establish Beekman Center Specialty Schools. An avid patron of the arts and a loving father. Frank also expressed a love for travel, having visited Turkey, Greece, Italy, China and a great many other countries. Upon his retirement, Frank purchased the Odeon Theater in Frandor and showed movies of all kinds and fostered a love for film and theater in many. Frank was incredibly charitable and a passionate member of the Michigan Peace Team. Known as the "Fun Grandpa", whether he was showing movies at the library, starring in stage productions, or volunteering as a clown at the zoo, he always tried to entertain and educate his community, receiving the East Lansing Chrystal Award in 2008 for his numerous efforts. Frank will be sorely missed by his loved ones and all those who knew him. He brought light and joy to his children, his partner Christina, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at his home on July 31 at 2:00.

Frank's love of film and passion for sharing it by way of programing screenings at the EL Library, UU Church and The Odeon profoundly enriched my life. Thanks, Frank. "Roll 'em"

I am so sorry to hear of Frank´s passing! I had the pleasure of working with Frank at Beekman, so many years ago. He was always optimistic, had a smile for everyone. We spoke often about his love for the arts and film. He really re invented himself several times. Enjoyed watching how Frank took his passion and brought old films to a generation that it was new to.
My thoughts are with all of Frank´s family and loved ones
