Ivan Joyce Obituary

Ivan H. Joyce, Sr., 86, a Las Vegas resident since 1951, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006. Ivan was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Nampa, Idaho, to Elisha Edward Joyce and Dessie Ann Strole Joyce. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master seargent at Nellis Air Base in 1964. Ivan served in two wars, World War II and the Korean War. Prior to his retirement as chief engineer at a local hotel and casino in 1988, he worked at the Nevada Test Site for several years. He loved fishing and hunting. Ivan was a 32nd degree mason with the Las Vegas Scottish Rite as a charter member, a past master of Nellis Lodge No. 46 F&A.M. and a shriner. He is survived by his wife, Gae Joyce; daughter, Marlene Orchelle; sons, Ivan Joyce, Jr. and Jeffrey Joyce; step-daughter, Stacy Sweeney; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Doris Funkhouser and Ona Bradshaw; and brothers, Dean, Fran and Loy. He was preceded in death by first wife, Virginia; brother, Orville; and sister, Rita. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Monday, May 8, with services to follow, both at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Also services at 1:20 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the shriners hospital for children, 2222 West Mesquite, Las Vegas, NV 89106.
