MICHAEL GERBINO Obituary

Michael "Mikey Bones" Gerbino Michael "Mikey Bones" Gerbino, 53, journey in this life came to an abrupt end April 1, 2017. Mikey was a predominate bass player in the world of Rock 'N Roll, his talent was admired across the nation. He was born June 2, 1963, in Amityville, N.Y. He spent much of his young life living in Massapequa Park and Lindenhurst. His passion for music began at an early age and his much beloved mother (3:33) embraced and supported his passion by buying him his first musical instrument. His mother passed away when he was only nine years old, but he carried her with him always through his music. Although Mikey made his mark as a bass player, he also played and loved piano, sax, trombone and guitar. Mikey played with many musical artists, Peter Chesea Band, Cher, Kaiser, Scratch N Sniff, Metal Elvis, Satisfaction, Bowry Boyz, Louis Prima Jr., The Renaissance Orchestra, Rooster and the Hot Rods, just to name a few. Although he was an amazing musician, that was not Mikey's greatest talent. His greatest talent was to make everyone he met feel like family. Which is why he referred to all of his friends as "brother or sister." He had a special way of making each individual person feel like an important part of his life..... this was his gift to all he loved. Mikey was the heart of rock music. The amount of people's lives he touched became so evident in the outpouring of grief filling his Facebook page. The planning of three separate memorials to be held for him, Wednesday, April 26 in Las Vegas, Saturday, May 20 in Arizona and Sunday, June 4 in Long Island, N.Y., is an amazing tribute to how much he was loved and how great his loss is felt by all who knew him. As great as his love for music and his love for his friends were.... they all took a back seat to his love for "his bride," Tracy. The couple met in 1996, it was love at first sight and married in 1999, they were husband and wife, but most importantly they were best friends... two hearts beating as one....always. Often when he was on the road he would post, "I can't wait to get home and be with my bride." His love for his wife was so deep that he would write he love notes and put them in her lunch box every day for the last 21 years. Along with his wife, Tracy Gerbino, Mikey is also survived by his father, Salvatore Gerbino; and brother, Salvatore Gerbino Jr. and his family. Mikey was a masterpiece in the gallery of life.

He was a very talented, intelligent young man when I knew him. His smile lit up a room. I will never forget him!

I met Mike when he was the bass player for Kaiser & I interviewee the band for an article I was writing for a rock magazine. I will never forget his effervescent smile, sense of humor & musical talent. The World lost a special man, way before his time. My condolences to his wife & all of his family.
